{Sunday Post} — The Extinction Agenda, Heart-Shaped Box, and The 6:20 Man

The Caffeinated Book Reviewer's Kimberly hosts a weekly meme called "The Sunday Post"!

* Merry Christmas *

  • So Christmastime is finally here, and I couldn't be less excited. I'm not exactly "bah humbug. "I just don't have the holiday spirit this year—I cannot explain it.

  • I'll be having "Christmas" on Sunday, so whatever bookish gifts, if any, will be listed next week.

  • I watched the Barbie movie on MAX. It sucked—the worst movie I've ever seen.

  • The KC Chiefs play on Christmas Day. Let's hope they don't screw up.

What Am I Currently Reading?

Friday - Due to my holiday blues, running errands, and dealing with a sewer issue, I haven't had time to read all week. I did place a bookmark inside Losing Spring by V.C. Andrews (ghostwritten by Andrew Neiderman), but I haven't read a single word in it yet. Part of me wants to read Lee Child's Bad Luck and Trouble, a Jack Reacher thriller and the basis for the second season of Reacher, which just began on Amazon Prime; I might search for it on a bookshelf. Other books on my reading agenda are Tom Clancy's Command and Control by Marc Cameron and Making It So by Sir Patrick Stewart.

What's in the Mailbox?

On Monday, I received my Hamilton Books order of Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill and The Authentic Life of Billy the Kid by Pat F. Garrett (ghostwritten by Ashmun Upson).

On Tuesday, I received a few cheap, used eBay books. The titles are: Below Zero by C.J. Box, Blood Trail by C.J. Box, NOS4A2 by Joe Hill, The Fireman by Joe Hill, and The 6:20 Man by David Baldacci.

What's New on the Shelf?

Did anyone know David Baldacci writes kids' books? I found his middle-grade book, The Finisher, at a thrift store for 25 cents. Also, I got In the Lives of Puppets by TJ Klune. If I'm correct, it's a queer retelling of Carlo Collodi's The Adventures of Pinocchio. No, it's not my typical read. I only picked it up because it's a 2023 publication and a Barnes & Noble Exclusive Edition.

Earlier in the week, I picked up The Extinction Agenda by Michael Laurence at Dollar Tree. On Friday at the same store, I bought War of the Spark: Ravnica by Greg Weisman, a Magic the Gathering book.

New titles on my Kindle are The Knife Slipped by Erle Stanley Gardner and Murder at Teal's Pond by David Bushman and Mark T. Givens.

  1. Merry Christmas! I'm sorry you're not in the Christmas spirit. Honestly, that's how I've been for the last five or so years. This is the first year in so long that I actually baked some cookies.

I'm sad you hated Barbie, but I understand. It's definitely not for everyone. I loved it so much. I went in thinking I'd hate it, but was pleasantly surprised.

    1. For some reason Google's not letting me log in and I keep forgetting to put in my name and URL, lol. Second time's the charm.

    2. I gave the movie a chance because I enjoy Margot Robbie, but I just didn't think it was funny or particularly interesting. Also, I have no emotional connection to Barbie to begin with.

    3. Yeah, sometimes Google does it for whatever reason.

  2. Sorry to hear you're not so much in the Christmas spirit this year. Hope you're able to have a nice holiday when you celebrate regardless. I thought the Barbie movie was a little dopey but guess I wasn't totally on the hate it scale. Just another doofy movie.

Nice new reads! These are new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them all!

    1. When it comes to Barbie, I'm on the hate-it scale. I wouldn't recommend the movie to anyone.

  3. I read The Finisher years ago. I was going to re-read it but got rid of the book.
    Wishing you a merry Christmas.

  4. I should've sent you the black Christmas tree I set up last year when my entire life kind of sucked. LOL It was actually pretty great...the black tree and the Melancholy Xmas playlist.

I do hope you receive some really good books and some Christmas treats. :-)

  5. I wasn't in the holiday spirit much this year either, although we had our big family party yesterday and it was nice. Hope you have a good Christmas.
