{Sunday Post} — The Edge, The Manor House, and Witch Fire

The Caffeinated Book Reviewer's Kimberly hosts a weekly meme called "The Sunday Post"!

* Weekly Tidbits *

  • I apologize for being absent last week; I was simply too busy to post a "Sunday Post." November has always been a busy month, and each year it gets more difficult. My mother continues to insist on hosting Thanksgiving dinner (more like lunch), and the older she gets, the more responsibility she assigns to her only child, me. Essentially, I have to spend two weeks getting things ready, which includes helping with the cooking and baking and hand-scrubbing the carpets and rugs. In addition, I tidied the flower gardens, removed leaves from the gutters, and rake and mulch leaves, which I did three times in two weeks. Oh, yeah, I almost forgot to mention clearing out the remnants of my late grandmother's possessions from a corner of their garage. Some items were donated, while others were thrown in the trash. Now that I had cleared the corner, I could see the dryer ventilation, which I also cleaned.

  • Thanksgiving has never appealed to me; it's my least favorite holiday. It all stems from some childhood trauma I experienced when relatives on my adopted side used to ridicule me every year. Fortunately, I'm not in close proximity to these people, so I'm no longer forced to interact with them.

  • My parent's dryer broke down. I ordered parts; two parts came in yesterday, and one is supposed to be delivered today. It's a simple fix; it won't take me long to work on it. Also today, I'll be installing a new light above their dining room table to replace an old ceiling fan that was down to one light.

  • I've been to the laundromat twice, helping my mother dry towels and clothes. While waiting for everything to dry, I grabbed a can of RC Berries and Cream Soda, and it tasted good. Weirdly, there are eBay sellers calling this soda “rare and asking $15 per can. That's insane.

  • The Black Friday sales stick this year.

  • I'm done with my Christmas shopping; everything is wrapped and taking up far too much space in my living room.

  • I have a new 4K TV that was on sale; it took me over a week to adjust the picture settings to my liking.

  • I rewatched Anna and the Apocalypse twice last week.

What's in the Mailbox?

An age-old query: Did Billy opt to review The Manor House by Gilly Macmillan? When I received The Manor House from UPS, I wondered the same thing. I looked through my emails; I didn't make a request or sign up for a book tour. I suppose the publisher randomly selected a book that they believed I would be interested in reviewing. It's just up my alley, so I'll read it at some point.

I probably should've included Witch Fire in my current reads, but technically it was via the mail, so I included it here. I'll start reading it on Black Friday, and my post is due on the 27th for a book tour.

What's New on the Shelf?

I picked up the newest Lincoln Lawyer novel, Resurrection Walk, by Michael Connelly earlier in the month.

I bought David Baladacci's The Edge a few days ago.

Two weeks ago, I got the following ten-cent paperbacks at the thrift store: The Burning Room by Michael Connelly, Devil's Gate by Clive Cussler and Graham Brown, Dragon by Clive Cussler, Sahara by Clive Cussler, and Beast by Peter Benchley.

This past Tuesday, I found two more Clive Cussler ten-cent paperbacks: The Spy and The Race.

The only new title on my Kindle is Alien: Inferno's Fall by Philippa Ballantine.

  1. I'm slowing making my way through Michael Connelly's books. I'll get to Resurrection Walk at some point. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy it.

  2. Sounds like a busy week! I've never been really big on Thanksgiving as well. While most of my family wants to be anti-Christmas, I am anti-Thanksgiving and neither of us can seem to get the other onboard with the other holiday. Oh well. Lol.

Nice new reads! These are all new to me ones but I hope you enjoy them once you get to read them!

  4. ooh, thanks for the reminder about Anna and the Apocalypse, I keep meaning to watch that! I'm sorry your Thanksgiving memories aren't great. I've always loved the family time. My mom has kind of passed the torch onto my brother and sister-in-law. As a single woman I have lucked out in not getting it handed to me. Even on my dad and stepmom's side, my youngest sister is really into cooking so she helps out and I don't have to there either. I hope you're able to enjoy your Thanksgiving and get some reading done this week!

  6. I'm envious that you're already done with Christmas shopping. I started mine, but I'm nowhere near done.
