{Sunday Post}—The Big Dark Sky, The Dark Hours, and Waypoints

The Caffeinated Book Reviewer's Kimberly hosts a weekly meme called "The Sunday Post"!

Weekly Tidbits

  • There were no reviews this week because I had to run errands and help my mother prepare for Thanksgiving.

  • I binge-watched Netflix's Wednesday on Friday. I had fun watching the series; hopefully, it'll get a second season, though I wouldn't cross my fingers on it. Remember, it's Netflix; they like to cancel everything.

What Am I Currently Reading?

I've completed reading Dune. Then I read Richard Paul Evans' "The Christmas Memory" and Michael Connelly's "Desert Star." When I get around to it, I'll write some reviews.

The book I'm now reading is Dune: The Duke of Caladan by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. I only recently began reading it (on Saturday night), and I've already read 133 pages (42%). I'll finish Jude Deveraux and Tara Sheet's Thief of Fate before starting Dune: The Lady of Caladan, so I don't "Dune" myself out. Then I'll read David Mack's Star Trek: Harm's Way before diving into Dune: The Heir of Caladan

What's New on the Shelf?

After reading Desert Star, I went out and bought the previous Ballard and Bosch novel, The Dark Hours by Michael Connelly. Sometime soon, I'll have to go through my books and make a checklist of all the titles I don't have by the author.

New titles on my Kindle are Stranger Things: Runaway Max by Brenna Yovanoff, Tied Up in Knotts: My Dad and Me by Betty Lynn and Karen Knotts, Waypoints: My Scottish Journey by Sam Heughan, and The Big Dark Sky by Dean Koontz.

  1. Netflix does seem to canel everything- it's so frustrating. I haven't heard of that show. Curious about the Don Knotts book. I always like him but it's been so long.

    1. "Wednesday" is a new version of The Addams Family, where a teenage Wednesday is sent to a private school.

  2. I haven't seen anything about the Koontz new book; I'll have to check that out. And I recently finished The Dark Hours and quite liked it. Hope you do too. Have a terrific week.

    1. I liked Desert Star; it's the first Bosch novel I've read in many years.

    2. I believe Koontz has two or three new books coming out in early 2023.

  3. I have read Dune a few times but never gotten into the future books than Dune Messiah. I notice the prequels (Dune: The Duke of Caladan etc) are getting mixed reviews, how are you finding them so far?

    1. I'm enjoying Dune: The Duke of Caladan so far. I'm aware that some ardent Frank Herbert devotees despise the prequels, mostly because Frank Herbert didn't write them. I will say that you have to be in a specific mood to read a Dune story.

  4. I totally forgot Wednesday was dropping this week! I'll have to start watching that one soon! It looked amazing! Glad to hear it was pretty good and I hope Netflix doesn't cancel yet another awesome series they created.

Nice new read! Hope you enjoy it once you get to read it!

  5. Netflix raised their rates so I should watch more of it. Will try Wednesday, the title you mentioned.

    1. I get the Basic Plan, and weirdly the picture quality has been coming in 4K lately. If you didn't already know, Wednesday is a take on the Addams Family. Tim Burton directs the first four episodes.

  7. Oh no looks like my comment disappeared. Anyway- love the Dune covers- those are so wild. And Don Knotts- haven't seen anything with him in ages. Could be an interesting read!

Hope you had a nice holiday!

    1. No, for some reason your first comment got filtered as "spam," which has now been posted.

Yes, the Dune books have outstanding covers. If it weren't for Don Knotts's book being on sale on Kindle, I wouldn't have even known of its existence.

  9. I didn't know there were Stranger Things books. I just started watching the show so I'm a late adopter. Excited to see there's more to explore when we finish season 4.
