{Sunday Post}—Eden's Children, Highlander, and No Plan B

The Caffeinated Book Reviewer's Kimberly hosts a weekly meme called "The Sunday Post"!

Weekly Tidbits

  • I've been in a grumpy mood since yesterday morning; don't ask me why. It escapes me; perhaps the weather is to blame.

  • I gave the Salvation Army about twenty small boxes of books earlier this week. And I have three more boxes of DVDs to drop off soon.

  • Two little bookcases that belonged to my late grandmother were demolished by me. For a while, they were kept in a storage container with large boxes on top, which distorted the tops. After cleaning out the locker, I kept the bookcases to make room for my grandmother's books—the ones I kept. I no longer required these bookcases since I had gotten rid of many of my own books, and as a result, I now have a little more space in my living room.

  • Why do Star Trek book prices on eBay seem to soar in the fall? While surfing eBay last night for no particular reason, I became aware of the ridiculous prices individuals were asking for secondhand Star Trek novels, particularly the "lots" and "bundles."

  • Although Highlander: The Series is free with ads on a number of streaming services, I bought the whole six-season run on VUDU for $4.99. I was a casual follower of the television series throughout its first run and always admired the original film—let's not get into the sequels.

  • I'm ashamed to say it, but I occasionally listen to Taylor Swift, and her new album, Midnights, is downright depressing.

  • Yes, I haven't yet finished my post for Halloween Ends. I'm going to rewatch it once I finish writing this post, and maybe then I'll be in the mood to express my comments.

What Am I Currently Reading?

The majority of Saturday was spent finishing Star Wars: Catalyst by James Luceno and The Secret Life of Marilyn Monore by J. Randy Taraborrelli. I'll begin reading Eden's Children by V.C. Andrews sometime today, and then No Plan B by Lee and Andrew Child. I haven't listened to The Maze Cutter yet, but I must. Why the wait? To begin with, I'm not a great lover of audiobooks, and finding time to listen to them has been a challenge for me. I'll have to multitask.

  1. I've been in a badish mood myself. In my case, I think it is stress, but I like the way you thing - change in the weather.

    1. The fluctuating temperatures, which have ranged from the 40s to the 80s, are ruining my allergies and my sanity.

  2. I stopped giving my books to Goodwill as I heard they trash them if they don't sell. Now I take them to my library which has a big warehouse/storage space for used books for sale.

    1. It's not the first time I've heard that about Goodwill—fortunately, I don't live near one.

  3. Why would you be ashamed to listen to Taylor Swift? :o It's not my cup of tea but loads of ppl think she writes great songs.
Hopefully you'll be in a better mood soon! Have a good week :)

    1. Some people I know, some of whom I am related to, despise Taylor Swift and consider her to be a talentless hack. She may not have the greatest voice, in my opinion, but she has a knack for penning lyrics. Unfortunately, her latest album isn't very good; the songs all sound the same, and the majority of the lyrics are melancholy.

  4. Bad moods can be hard to explain and shake off. I've been there plenty of times. I can always tell when Taylor Swift has a new album because it's all over Instagram from the people I follow...or Twitter. Not my kind of music so I never know anything about it until it starts popping up like it is now! Lol. Hope you enjoy the new album.

  5. I have mood changes for no apparent reason.

I am glad that you now have some more space in your living room. Since my son has started school I have managed to keep his toys under control and the space is amazing!

Have a great week next week!

    1. Since the two distorted bookcases are no longer there, I can push the love seat up against the wall where they were previously hidden behind it.

    1. Beast runs for less than 90 minutes, excluding the credits, and nothing happens until well past the halfway point. The narrative is tedious, but the CGI effects are excellent.

  7. Never be ashamed to listen to Taylor Swift! She is brilliant and I like Midnights. She has such a way with lyrics!!!! Doesn't matter that her voice is mediocre. We can't all be Celine Dions. Ha ha.

We all have our Grumpy Gus moments. Hope yours passes soon.

Halloween is a sacred movie to me and I keep seeing headlines that people ARE NOT happy with how the franchise ended and I don't even want to read about why or see the final movie myself. Just let the first one remain perfect in my mind.

    1. I believe Halloween fans are overreacting because, following Halloween Kills, the writers drove themselves into a hole and couldn't find a way out, resulting in Halloween Ends, an anthology-style narrative with a prolonged appearance by a weak Michael Myers. It's only the end of the franchise for Blumhouse—the rights have reverted to Malek Akkad—and, from what I've heard, another "reboot" is in the works.

  8. I liked the original Highlander movie. And I hope Catalyst turned out well.
