{Sunday Post} - Star Trek, Twin Peaks, and The X-Files

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

Good Morning, Everyone!

  • My week sucked.
  • The kitchen drain is backing up into the bathroom sink in the basement. After pouring lye and bleach (on different days) and shoving a heavy iron snake down the drain, it's now working half-ass.
  • The dishwasher has been leaking water onto the carpet, and I had to scrub (and scrub) the water stain by hand to where it is almost unnoticeable. It costs $76 for a replacement door seal. (If that's the issue.) I'm not spending $76 on something like a door seal because that money can go towards a new dishwasher. (FYI: The dishwasher is on its last legs anyway.)
  • My cold doesn't want to go away. I'm still coughing my head off.
  • The KC Royals' pitching continues to suck. Their now 28-48. The question is, "Will the KC Royals reach 30 wins before getting 50 losses?"

What Am I Reading?

Due to unexpected plumbing issues and my ongoing cold, I didn't have time or energy to read anything during the week. Yesterday, I started reading Sands of Dune. Since it's under 200 pages, I hope to have it finished by Tuesday. Then I'll read The Songs That Could Have Been.

What's in the Mail?

Revell sent me the paperback Critical Alliance by Elizabeth Goodard. Based on the blurb, I'm saying this is an action mystery with a bit of romance tossed into the mix.

What's New on the Bookshelf?

I need to start going to Dollar Tree on Tuesdays because it seems that's the day they stock their books.

I stopped by Dollar Tree to buy bleach, there were a lot of customers there, and I was in a rush. The cleaning supplies are on the back wall. I wanted to take a shortcut, but all the aisles were filled, except for the greeting card aisle. The books are at the tail end of that aisle. I had one objective - bleach. I wasn't going to look at the books. Then I saw the words "The X-Files" and had to stop and look a the new titles. I picked up The X-Files Origins: Devil's Advocate by Jonathan Maberry and Twin Peaks: The Final Dossier by Mark Frost. It's one of two YA X-Files novels published by Imprint a few years ago. Twin Peaks: The Final Dossier is a tie-in book published in 2017 to coincide with the belated third season that aired on Showtime. It's a fictional FBI dossier that gives an update on the characters.

New eBooks on my Kindle are seven titles from the Star Trek: Typhon Pack miniseries - Zero Sum Game by David Mack, Seize Fire by Michael A. Martin, Rough Beasts of the Empire by David R. George III, Paths of Disharmony by Dayton Ward, Plagues of the Night by David R. George III, Raise the Dawn by David R. George III, and Brinkmanship by Una McCormack. Weirdly, book 5, The Struggle Within, wasn't part of the 99-cent July sale. It's a 103-page novella (the only one in the series). Its priced at $7.99 on Kindle. That's a bit pricey for a novella. I'll have to play the waiting game on it. Also, I got Star Trek: TNG: Dark Matters by Diane Duane for 99 cents.

  3. Sorry to hear about the crummy week. Plumbing issues are always a bummer. My parents are experiencing a bit of issues as well. They're currently getting quotes on a repair that will tear apart one of two bathrooms for a week or so. So that will be fun eventually. :P

Nice new reads though! All new to me ones but I hope you will enjoy them all!

    Here's my StS

  5. Sorry about your terrible week! Hope this one is better. I haven't been following the Royals this year, and 28-48 is not great. I miss the excitement of 2015.

  6. Oh no- sorry to hear that! Things like that are the worst. I'm having issues with my dishwasher too and want to replace it, but the guy who came in said I needed a plumbing expert because something about how when they installed this dishwasher it wasn't to code with the size of the pipes or whatever. Rounded off, it's going to be expensive. :(

Anyway hope your situation gets better!

Sounds like you're scoring some good books!
