Sons of Thunder's Spinoff "Redemption" Debuts on Pure Flix on January 13th

I spent the last 24 hours binge-watching the first season of Sons of Thunder. And, no, I'm not referring to the short-lived Walker, Texas Ranger spinoff from 1999. Instead, I'm referring to the Pure Flix drama that debuted in December 2019. The series centers on Simon (Randal Reeder), a combat vet and former biker gang member trying to outrun his deadly past after stumbling upon a Bible. He travels across the country on his motorcycle, working odd jobs and aiding strangers who need his help, all while trying to find redemption for his past sins.

So far, there's only one season of Sons of Thunder. There are seven episodes total that run between 27 and 40 minutes each. Like most modern shows, the series uses flashbacks to flesh out the protagonist's backstory. In these flashbacks, Vanessa Angel (Kingpin) co-stars as Simon's love interest Jackie, and Don Swayze plays Angie D., the Devil's Hand biker gang leader. The spinoff series Sons of Thunder: Redemption debuts tomorrow on Pure Flix. The series will follow a different character - Jacob Lewis, a former Devil's Hand member looking for redemption after being released from prison. Charlene Amoia, Tyler Johnson,  Kristy Swanson, and Wyatt Walter costar.

My Thoughts

The first episode of Sons of Thunder is a little uneven. If you can get past some cringy dialogue, the series does get better with every episode. Oddly, the plots resemble the original Walker, Texas Ranger, which unintentionally gives off a camp vibe. It has an intriguing premise about a man trying to outrun his past.

Overall, I enjoyed binge-watching Sons of Thunder on Pure Flix. If you haven't seen it, I recommend watching the series and tuning in for spinoff Sons of Thunder: Redemption
