{Sunday Post} - Candyman, God Emperor of Dune, and Hellfire

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

Good Morning, Everyone!

I'm beginning to get my mojo back after being sick for three days after receiving the Moderna booster shot last Sunday morning. I didn't have any side effects from the Janssen shot but became ill within a few hours after receiving the Moderna booster. It started with pain shooting up from the needle injection spot on my arm. By that night, I had muscle aches and cold chills, which didn't help the pinched nerve in my neck. The flu-like symptoms hit in the early morning hours on Monday. I didn't feel like old myself until Wednesday afternoon.

My reviews are late for the reason stated above. The review for the Halloween Kills novelization is still in the works. I'm only a week late with it. I only had time to write the review for Snake Eyes: G.I. Jones Origins. I would have gotten a few more done on Saturday morning, but I had to clean out part of a storage unit (the one with my Grandma's belongs). I still need to get rid of a mattress and boxsprings, several bags, and boxes. A few things are going to be dropped off at Salvation Army whenever they're taking donations. The other leftovers are for my Aunt to go through if she has time in her precious schedule to do so.

What Am I Reading?

Due to being under the weather, I didn't feel like reading. This week's reading agenda is the same as last week - Goosebumps SlappyWorld: Judy and the Beast, Out of the Rain, and The Living Dead.

What's in the Mail?

I had ordered God Emperor of Dune and Heretics of Dune by Frank Herbert for $6.95 each from Hamilton Books. The books arrived on Saturday afternoon. I now have Books one, four, and five in paperback and Books two, three, and six on Kindle, which were the only ones in the series written by Frank Herbert.

Lionsgate Home Entertainment sent over the Candyman reboot sequel on Blu-ray. I watched it last night, and I'm still trying to gather my final thoughts on it.

What's New On the Bookshelf?

Many years ago, I started collecting old Gothic romances. The stories are a mixed bag for me, but I love the covers, which feature a woman running away from a creepy mansion or castle. Yesterday morning, I picked up two titles at a thrift store - Listen for the Whisperer by Phyllis A. Whitney and Shadows From the Past by Dorothy Daniels.

I forgot to mention that my mother was with me when I was shopping at the thrift store. Afterward, she wanted to stop by the town's only antique store, The Nest Egg. As with most antique stores, the prices are slightly overpriced, though some refurnished furniture has decent price tags. I found some more Star Trek Log books again. They wanted $3 a piece for them. Now that isn't necessarily a bad price if a reader needed a specific title. I don't own any of these. I've seen all 10 Log series listed on eBay at a better, cheaper price per title. If I ever decided to collect them, eBay is the better choice for my wallet.

I've been in The Nest Egg multiple times but never bought anything. Well, until yesterday. In the past, I've talked about my love for John Saul's horror novels. There are only two books that I didn't own physical copies of - Hellfire and The Unwanted. Guess what I found? Yep, that's right. After searching for these books for years, I finally own the missing books for my collection. They're in a "complete collection" hardback, along with the novel Sleepwalk. Now here's the kicker - someone wrote the price amount inside the book using a pen. Seriously, the seller should have used a pencil. Come on! The inside reads, "203 * 3 Novels * $2.00." I handed the checker, an older woman wearing thick glasses, a 5 dollar bill. She handed over the receipt, then the change, and asked if I wanted the book in a bag, which I declined. I didn't look at the receipt until later. She charged me $3 instead of $2. I think she saw the "3" from "3 Novels" and thought the price was $3. And to be fair, many of the books in the #203 booth had $3 price tags. Now I'm not complaining. $3 is a great price for the book.

With me being out of commission for most of the week, I didn't check the Kindle monthly book sales. Like always, I got every 99 cent Star Trek title - The Joy Machine by James Gunn, TNG: Dyson Sphere by Charles Pellegrino and George Zebrowski, The Higher Frontier by Christopher L. Bennett, Prey: Book One: Hell's Heart by John Jackson Miller, Prey: Book Two: The Jackal's Trick by John Jackson Miller, Prey: Book Three: The Hall of Heroes by John Jackson Miller, Errand of Fury: Book One: Seeds of Rage by Kevin Ryan, Errand of Fury: Book Two: Demands of Honor by Kevin Ryan, and Errand of Fury: Book Three: Sacrifices of War by Kevin Ryan. Lastly, I got Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury for $1.99.

  1. Does anyone else hate putting the clocks back an hour? Sure, we're getting an extra hour of sleep, but it's annoying!

I'm starting to back bounce from being ill. Currently, I'm feeling like my old self. Hopefully, I can get some reading and writing done this week.

  2. I read somewhere that you get more symptoms if you get 2 different vaccins.

I had Pfeizer and only felt sick and had a fever the when I got the first shot. No other symptoms after the second :)

    I'm glad you're feeling better!

  4. Oh that sucks about the side effects! Three days... wow.

I love the Star Trek Log series. Although admittedly mostly for the covers. Although some of those stories aren't bad. The first five or so... those covers are fab.

    Wow- those Dune covers...
