{Sunday Post} - Christopher Lee, The Remaking, and World Beyond

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

Good Morning, Everyone!

The last few weeks have been beyond weird. There have been some unexplainable things that occurred in the early morning hours that I cannot explain. Supernatural? Doubtful. More than likely, the cause is stress. However, that doesn't explain things I've witnessed with my own two eyes when I was fully awake. I'm not going into details because nobody will believe me.

If you live in the midwest, then you know it's been raining on and off for nearly two weeks. The excessive rain took its toll on Wednesday morning when the garage flooded. At the time, the rain had stopped, and I thought it had a handle on the situation. Then mother nature thought it would be a good time to drop 5 inches of rain in 2 hours, which flooded the basement. The good news the water wasn't deep, it just covered the surface, but it was enough to warp two bookcases and a corner desk. As far as I can tell, none of the books got wet, though a few DVDs got ruined. It could have been worse. It took an entire day to remove the water. I had to get a second dehumidifier, which wasn't easy to find in a small town. The stores were either out of stock or had discontinued selling dehumidifiers altogether. Eventually, I found one at an Orchlens store. When I say one, I mean Orchlens had only one in stock. The rain smell has now gone away entirely in the basement.

My grandmother's health hasn't changed much. Some days she can carry on a conversation, and there are other days where she doesn't have a clue what's going on around her. Currently, Hospice is only going in twice a week to bathe her. I wish they would go in daily to help feed her. The appointment-only rule at the nursing home is gone, so I have no excuse why I shouldn't visit her more often. Well, I do have a reason why I don't want to go. The last time I was there, she didn't recognize me. I'll visit eventually. My grandmother has a birthday next month, so I'll definitely be going then.

FYI: The local library has now reopened to the public. I went in there during the week but didn't check anything out.

What Am I Reading?

I haven't read one single book in the last few weeks. I still have my bookmark inside The Amityville Horror II by John G. Jones, which I mentioned in my last Sunday Post. I might read it this week or might read something else entirely. There are many other books I've been itching to read.

Recent Reviews

I haven't written a review in several weeks. Yes, I've been busy with many things, but those are just excuses for me not to write.

What's in the Mail?

RLJ Entertainment sent over The Walking Dead: World Beyond: Season One DVD, which I haven't had time to watch yet. I saw the series when it originally aired last year, so the episodes are still fresh in my mind. What I'm going to do is I'll watch an episode or two to see how good the video and sound qualities are, and then watch the special features. Then I'll write my review, which I'll either post on the 5th or 6th.

Nearly two weeks, I received The Eurocrypt of Christopher Lee Collection Bundle from Severin, which I had pre-ordered a while ago. The Blu-ray set features five films - The Torture of Chamber of Dr. Sadism, Crypt of the Vampire, Challenge the Devil, Sherlock Holmes and The Deadly Necklace, and Castle of the Living Dead. It also comes with the two-disc Theatre Macabre Blu-ray, a largely unseen Polish anthology series hosted by Christopher Lee. The set also contains a soundtrack for Castle of the Living Dead, the bonus Relics From The Crypt Blu-ray disc featuring documentaries, and a 100-page Christopher Lee: The Continental Connection booklet. Included in the bundle is a Christoper Lee poster & pin, the autobiography Terrence Fisher: Master of Gothic Cinema by Tony Dalton, and two Severin stickers.

What's New On the Bookshelf?

I was shopping yesterday at a Dollar Tree and picked up the nonfiction book From Eden To Exile by Eric H. Cline. During this past week, I bought Ali Cross: Like Father, Like Son by James Patterson. It's a spinoff of the Alex Cross mysteries, but it's written for YA readers.

Here are the recent titles on my Kindle How to Survive a Horror Movie by Seth Grahame-Smith, The Remaking by Clay McLeod Chapman, Star Trek: TNG: The Q Continuum - Q-Space by Greg Cox, Star Trek: TNG: The Q Continuum - Q-Zone by Greg Cox, Star Trek: TNG: The Q Continuum - Q-Strike by Greg Cox, Star Trek: The Unsettling Stars by Alan Dean Foster, Star Trek: A Contest of Principles by Greg Cox, Star Trek: Badlands: Book One by Susan Wright, Star Trek: Badlands: Book Two by Susan Wright, Star Trek: Faces of Fire by Michael Jan Friedman, and Star Trek: TNG: Into the Nebula by Gene DeWeese.

  1. I think that tease about strange things happening needs to be expanded a little bit - you got me extremely curious.
It must be so hard to visit your grandma with her not recognizing you. I hope she'll be on a good day the next time you're able to visit.
We've had a lot of rain lately, too, but thankfully no flooding the house (touch wood!)
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading.

  2. Oh man, pleeeeeeeeeeeeease tell us about the strange things happening!!!! I'll believe it, I promise! I had a coworker once who I would sit in her office for hours making her tell me all her out of body experiences and stuff because I so desperately want to be visited by ghosts or have an out of body experience myself, but nothing ever happens to me. Sigh.

I watch all three Walking Dead Universe shows. When does World Beyond Return, anyway?

That's very sad about your grandma. You said you wish hospice were there to help feed her. Someone IS feeding her, right???

I'll click the "Notify Me" box in case you take pity on us and tell us about the strange goings on. :-)
