Sunday Post - Pokergeist, Star Wars, and a Redesign!

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @  Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

Good Evening, Everyone!

I have two good reasons why I'm a little late with today's post.
  • 1. I've caught the flu/cold bug that's been going around my neck of the woods so I slept in a little bit this morning.
  • 2. I watched the NFL AFC Championship game. I'm not a very big football fan but I am from Missouri and the KC Chiefs are in the playoffs. I guess I should say - were in the playoffs as the Chiefs won the AFC Championship and will be going to the Super Bowl on Feb. 2nd.

You might have noticed this blog looks a little different than what it was last week. While I loved the previous design, it wasn't mobile friendly and I kept getting complaints from readers so I had to make a major change to the layout. The layout isn't my design. I got the theme, Sora Ribbon, from Sora Templates. There's a free version and a premium version for $9.95. I go the premium version so I could make a few changes to it.

Along with the new look, I added in the cookie disclosure popup for the United States so it will take care of the new CCPA law. There's already a separate cookie policy disclosure that pops up for other countries, which takes care of the EU cookie law. I've also updated my own privacy policy page, which should cover this blog for the EU, CCPA, and the COPPA laws.

There's still a lot for me to do on this blog. There are many posts that need to be relabeled. Many of my very first reviews are missing images. I need to replace the older ratings with the new star rating. And then I need to remove all the blockquotes from past posts. So, like I said, there's lots of work to be done on this blog.

All of my free time last week was focused on the redesign so I hed to put off two planned reviews. After I get this post published, I'll be finishing up my review for the Joker Blu-ray and sill start working on the review for A Longer Fall by Charlaine Harris.

What Am I Currently Reading?

I just finished reading The Courier by Gordon J. Campbell over the weekend and I'll be working on the review sometime tonight as I need to have it posted tomorrow for a blog tour. Next, I'll be reading Hellfire by Eoin Colfer, which I believe will be released on Jan. 28th. It's a dragon story so it should be a fun read.

What's In the Mail?

Emily Bestler Books (an imprint of Simon & Schuster, Inc.) was kind enough to send me an ARC of The Chill by Scott Carson, which will be published on Feb. 11th.

I just signed up to review Pokergeist by Michael Phillip Cash for an upcoming book tour only a few days ago and I already received the title in the mail yesterday, along with a bonus novella — Bulwark: A Paranormal Thriller by Brit Lunden.

Mill Creek Entertainment sent me two DVDs and a Blu-ray to review. The DVDs are Savage Creatures and A Psycho's Path. The Blu-ray contains two mini-series The Color of Magic and Hogfather, which are both adaptations of Terry Pratchett's novels.

More Star Wars Books!

Yeah, I bought a few more used Star Wars paperbacks from an eBay seller. You would be surprised at the prices sellers are asking for Star Wars titles. A few weeks ago, I added to my watchlist 13 Star War books and later the seller offered me a cheaper deal on them. I ended up paying under $20 total, including shipping, which is around $1.54 per book.

My main reason for buying the lot is because I want to read The Black Feet Crisis trilogy by Michael P. Kube McDowell. The character Cindel Towani from the '80s Ewoks movies appears in the third novel. The titles in the trilogy are Before the Storm, Shields of Lies, and Tryant's Test.

There also seven X-Wing titles — The Krytos Trap, The Bacta War, Wraith Squadron, Iron Fist, Solo Command, Isard's Revenge, and Starfighters of Adumar. These are books 3-9. There are 10 books total in the series. The entire series on Kindle is listed for $59.99 so I was excited to get seven paperbacks for a cheap price.

The other three titles are Tales of the Bounty Hunters, The Paradise Snare, and The Han Solo Adventures. Tales of the Bounty Hunters is an anthology edited by Kevin J. Anderson. The Paradise Snare is book one in the Han Solo Trilogy by A.C. Crispin. The Han Solo Adventures features Han Solo At Stars' End, Han Solo's Revenge, and Han Solo and the Lost Legacy by Brian Daley, all of which were originally published around 1979-1980. I had an original paperback of Han Solo At Stars' End when I was a child. Whatever happened to that book is anyone's guess!

What's New on the Bookshelf?

I  picked up James Patterson's newest title Lost when I was shopping at Walmart. I am way behind on reading Patterson's books. Maybe one of these days I will have time to start reading them. I could be wrong but I believe Lost is first installment of a new series.
