Where To Purchase?
This year I took a few steps out of my comfort zone and read a few titles outside my normal preferred genre. Two of them happens to be science fiction & fantasy. While I have never been a big fan of these genres in the past, I now have more respect for them, especially for the older titles from '70s and '80s.
During the past week, I fell in love the with "Masters Legends of Fantasy Art, 2nd Expanded Edition" by the editors of Fantasy & Scifi Art ImagineFX and published by Fox Chapel Publishing. It's a beautiful art book featuring 36 legendary artist, such as Frank Frazetta, H.R. Giger, Boris Vallejo, Adam Hughs, David Gibbons, and many more!
The book is split up into four sections:
- Gallery: A gallery of classic fantasy & science fiction art from legendary artists, such as Mike Mignola (Hellboy) and H.R. Giger (Alien).
- Art Legends: This section features interviews and workshops with selective artist.
- Art Masters: More interviews and workshops from authors, such as Dan Scott and Andrew Jones.
- Core Skills: Learn how to draw, paint, and make digital art using modern tools.
Overall, Masters and Legends of Fantasy Art is a marvelous book to own for any aspiring artists or comic fans and science fiction & fantasy lovers alike. (Warning: There are a few illustrations with nudity!) I now have a deeper appreciation for these genres after reading all the interviews and admiring the gorgeous artworks! The book would make an interesting gift for someone special in your life.
