DVD Review - Anna and the Apocalypse

A zombie apocalypse threatens the sleepy town of Little Haven – at Christmas – forcing Anna and her friends to fight, slash and sing their way to survival, facing the undead in a desperate race to reach their loved ones. But they soon discover that no one is safe in this new world, and with civilization falling apart around them, the only people they can truly rely on are each other.

Where To Purchase?

Yeah, it might seem a bit odd to see a zombie movie being mentioned on a "gift guide" but I couldn't resist featuring the musical Anna and the Apocalypse! Yes, I said musical! A zombie musical to be precise. The film was released to theatres in the UK last year. In the USA, it received a limited run in the theatres in late 2018 and landed on DVD this past October. I recall seeing the trailer for it last year on YouTube and I thought it would be a fun watch. I bought the DVD and it turned out to be really good.

The very beginning of the film feels like the UK version of Glee with the choreographed musical numbers but then an apocalypse occurs turning the citizens of Little Haven, Scotland into brain-thirsty zombies. It's up to teenager Anna to try to save her father and friends from becoming dead!

Overall, Anna and the Apocalypse (R; 93 mins) is a fun zombie holiday film with some very catchy songs. The DVD would make a great gift for a zombie fan!
