DVD Review - Shaun the Sheep: The Farmer's Llamas

Not Rated; 59 minutes; $14.98; Amazon

Arriving on DVD and Digital HD from Lionsgate Home Entertainment on June 14th is the All-New Special Shaun the Sheep: The Farmer's Llams.

Shaun the Sheep is a spinoff of the popular British stop-motion animated Wallace and Gromit franchise. Set on the Mossy Bottom Farm, Shaun is the smartest sheep of the flock. He is also looking for something exciting to do, if the farm sheepdog Bitzer doesn't get in his way. A feature-length film, Shaun the Sheep Movie, was released last year.

Shaun the Sheep: The Farmer's Llamas first premiered in USA last November on Amazon Video. The 30-minute special centers on Farmer, Bitzer (both voiced by John Sparkes) and Shaun (voiced by Justin Fletcher) going to country fair. After noticing that three llamas were being sold at an auction, Shaun comes up with a clever plan to get Farmer to bid on them.

As soon as the llamas arrive at Mossy Bottom Farm, chaos erupts. Bitzer tries his best to keep the farm in top shape, but the llamas are running wild, destroying nearly everything in sight; while at the same time, the sheep herd are having a good laugh about everything. Well, all except for Shaun the Sheep, who must find a way to save the day and the entire farm.

 Bonus Features includes:
  • Meet The Llams
  • The Director's Perspective
  • Behind The Fleece
  • 2 Bonus Episodes
    • Cheetah Cheater
    • Zebra Ducks Of The Serengeti

Final Thoughts: While I have watched a few Wallace and Gromit shorts, I had no idea there was spinoff called Shaun the Sheep until I heard about this DVD release. Being a fan of stop-motion animation, I thought I would give the 30-minute special a try.

To my surprise, Shaun the Sheep: The Farmer's Llamas is absolutely hilarious! With very little dialogue, the special relies on clever stop-motion animation to tell the story about a three trouble-making llama, whom all causes a bit of a ruckus on the farm. As an added bonus, there are two seven-minute Shaun the Sheep episodes on the single disc.

Overall, I thought Shaun the Sheep: The Farmer's Llamas is an adorable, funny cartoon that the entire family can enjoy watching together.
