Review - Waylaid by Kim Harrison

Pocket Star; 87 pages; Amazon
It's difficult to keep up with all the fantasy/supernatural; novels that are on the market these days. While I do like reading this genre, I tend to stick with a few select authors, such as Kim Harrison, the author of the Hollow series. What attracted me to the series to begin with was that most of the title's are a spin of a Clint Eastwood movie title.

Sadly, the Hollow series ended in 2014 with the final installment, The Witch With No Name. However, book one of the Peri Reed Chronicles was released last year (the paperback will be coming out on April 19th!), titled The Drafter.

Available today as an ebook, is Waylaid, a short novella that mixes together the author's two series!

Yes, I'm well aware that The Drafter is set in a futuristic green world of Detroit and that the Hollow series is set in a world were vampires, witches, werewolves and other supernaturals walk among us. Kim Harrison uses a little magic to zap Hollow's Rachel Morgan quite literally into Peri Reed's living room.

Being yanked out of your reality and into a world where no supernatural creatures (well, except for Jenks) exist, doesn't fly very well with Rachel; so naturally she wants to get back to her own world as soon as possible.

To do so, Rachel must trust Peri with her life, and along the way she might have to help Peri out a few deadly situations.
Final Thoughts: Placing two different worlds (well, book series) into one story could have been a complete disaster, but Kim Harrison cleverly has done the impossible here; which I'm sure fans of both series are going to love this 87 page story. The plot is fast-paced, the dialogue is well-written and the two main characters (Rachel and Peri) have great chemistry together. Overall, Waylaid is a quick, entertaining read.
