Now available on Blu-ray from RLJE Films is the revenge drama Into The Ashes (Not Rated; 97 minutes). It's also available on DVD. Written & directed by Aaron Harvey, the film stars Luke Grimes, Robert Taylor, James Badge Dale, Marguerite Moreau and Frank Grillo.

Set in Alabama, the film centers on a gang leader, Sloan (played by Grillo), being released from prison and seeking revenge on Nick Brenner (played by Grimes), a former member of his gang who lead the authorities to his incarnation. Nick has been living a simple life in a small town with his wife Tara (played by Moreau) but he has always feared one day Sloan would come after him. And, unfortunately, that day is finally here!

Sloan tracks down Nick and takes the only love of his life. With his best friend, Sal (played by James Badge Dale), by his side, Nick goes on a revenge quest of his own, which leads to an investigation by the local sheriff (played by Taylor), who happens to be his father-in-law.

Special Features include:
  • Building The Fire: The Making of Into The Ashes

Final Thoughts
Over the summer, I became a big fan of Paramount Network's Yellowstone series; first binge watching the entire first season in matter of days and then eagerly anticipating for each new weekly second season episode to air. One of the stars of Yellowstone is Luke Grimes, who also plays a very similar character in Into The Ashes

The whole revenge plot has been done to death but it's done slightly different in this flick. The story is told from three different point-of-views: the hero, the bad guy, and the sheriff. It's a little predictable at times but the shift with the storytelling gives it an old school "noir" vibe.

The picture and sound qualities on the Blu-ray are topnotch. There are only two featurettes. It would have been nice if there was a a commentary from the director/writer Aaron Harvey!

Overall, Into The Ashes might look like a by-the-book revenge tale but thanks to clever directing and solid performances, the flick is actually entertaining.
