Description
In this beautiful collection of traditional quilt patterns, Lynette shows how different a pattern can look by "flipping" your fabric choices, from traditional to colors to bright, exploding colors of new modern fabrics.

My Thoughts

For those of you who are into quilting, you probably already know who Lynette Jensen is; if not, then let me tell you about the author. Lynette Jensen is the creator of pattern company called Thimbleberries, which was launched in 1987, and she is one of the first designers to team up with a fabric company, RJR Fabrics. Lynette retired from the quilting world for a few years, but she has recently returned to designing fabrics and patterns, which includes the recently released book  Thimbleberries: Quilts with a New Attitude.

I was well aware that the title was released earlier this year, but the cover art didn't appeal to me, so at the time, I wasn't interested in getting the book. However, after hearing good things about it, I thought I would feature it as part of my blog's Holiday Gift Guide.

The book features 23 new quilt patterns, which is a blend of traditional and modern designs. The quilts were made with either Thimbleberries fabrics or modern fabrics from Lynette Jensen's Cotton+Steel collections.

Most of the patterns have two different versions in the book, one using traditional fabrics and one using bright modern fabrics. Each quilting projects has detailed instructions with colorful step-by-step diagrams.

The quilt projects in the book are:

Autumn Crescendo
Autumn Crescendo Mini
Citrus Crush
Pine Ridge
Blue Ridge Pine
Confetti Stars
Confetti Stars Crib
Very Merry Tree Skirt
Black, White & Bright
Garden Inspiration
My Blue Heaven
Scrap Ease
Sky Blue Waters
Sedona Sands
Gemstones
Autumn Cottage
The Spooky Cottage
Harvest Lone Star Burst
Blue Blast Star Burst
Whirligig
Tickled Pink
Tickled Pink Pillow
Heirloom Winter White

My expectations for the title was low due to my dislike for the cover art, but you should never judge a book by its cover; as I ended up liking the book quite a bit. I like the fact that there are two different versions of the projects, well, except for Heirloom Winter White. No matter what style of quilting you're into, there's a project for just about anyone.

Overall, I'm impressed with all the patterns in the Thimbleberries: Quilts with a New Attitude quilting book. It would make a great gift this holiday season for any quilter.
