My Thoughts

It's seems like Kingsman: The Golden Circle (the sequel to 2014's Kingsman: The Secret Service) was playing in theaters only a few weeks ago. Oh, wait a minute, it was! The movie was released to theaters on September 22nd, so I'm a surprised the film is being released to Blu-ray less than three months later. While the film received mixed reviews from critics, it still made nearly $400 million at the box-office, and a third film is already being planned.

The first film was a sleeper box-office hit in 2014. For me, the movie fell under the radar until I stumbled upon it on HBO last year. I thought it was a fun action-action flick, so my expectations for the sequel were a bit high, and for the most part I wasn't disappointed with it. No, it's not as good as the first film, but sequels are rarely better than the originals.

Kingsman: The Golden Circles centers on Eggsy (played by Taron Egerton) and Merlin (played by Mark Strong) heading to Texas after the Kingsman headquarters in England is destroyed. They make an alliance with their cousin-like USA spy organization called Statesman, which is lead by Champagne "Champ" (played by Jeff Bridges), so they can stop Poppy Adams (played by Julianne Moore), a crazed druglord who has put a deadly toxin in the majority of recreational drugs around the world.

Eggy and Merlin teams up with Harry Hart (played by Colin Firth), who survived being shot in the eye in the first film, and the Stateman agents Jack Daniels (played by Pedro Pascal) and Ginger Ale (played by Halle Berry), so they can once again save the world.

Overall, Kingsman: The Golden Circle is a fun, action-packed, thrill-ride from beginning to end. There were a few things I didn't like in the film, such as a not-to-named character from the first film being killed off at the very beginning of the sequel, but none of these things took away the enjoyment of the film for me.

The picture and sound quality on the Blu-ray disc are excellent. There are over 2 hours of special features and extras.
