Q&A with A.J. Norris, author of Her Black Soul

Available now from Limitless Publishing, LLC is the paranormal romance Her Black Soul, book three in the Dark Amulet Series, by A.J. Norris.

The author has taken a few minutes out of her busy schedule for a Q&A about her newest novel.

When did you become interested in storytelling?

I became interested in storytelling about 5 years ago. But I have always had an active imagination. As a kid, I’d spend hours in my room making up stories in my head. One day, I decided it was time to start writing them down.

What was your first book/story published?

The first story I had published was a short story called Fetch. It was about a dog and his person playing fetch, but in reality the dog was teaching the person to fetch. LOL It was told from the dog’s point of view. I still love that story.

What inspired you to write Her Black Soul?

This book is the third in the Dark Amulet Series. But I’d say it’s really the characters that inspire and dictate the story to me. I just go along for the ride.

What character in Her Black Soul is the most/least like you, and in what ways?

The antagonist is the least like me. She’s a jealous creature that hates on everyone, especially when she doesn’t get her way. This character allows her negative emotions to control her.

What is your favorite part in Her Black Soul?

My favorite part in the book is whenever the angel Jeremiah and the demon Berus are together. I love them. They both want to be together even though they shouldn’t.

What was the hardest part to write?

The part leading up to the climax/black moment of the story is the hardest for me. It’s always the part I struggle with. I wrote everything in this book then went back to finish the climax because it gave me so much trouble. I think it’s the intensity of the types of scenes that gets me.

What would your ideal career be, if you couldn't be an author?

An editor.

Do you read reviews of your books? If so, do you pay any attention to them, or let them influence your writing?

I read reviews but only with one eye open. 😉 It’s a scary thing. I will make mental notes if I see something that is consistently commented on. But for the most part I listen to my own heart and critique partners.

What well-known writers do you admire most?

J.R. Ward, Gena Showalter, and Becca Fitzpatric.

Do you have any other books/stories in the works?

I just finished the second book in my romantic suspense series and I have a story in an upcoming romance anthology called Craving Bad, which releases May 23, 2017. I have a few other projects to write and then I’ll start on book four of the Dark Amulet series, titled Her Black Magic.

About the Author: A.J. Norris is a romantic suspense and dark paranormal romance author. She enjoys being able to get inside someone else's head, even a fictional one, and see what they see. Watching how her characters deal with difficult situations or squirm with the uncomfortable ones makes the hard work of writing all worth it. However, writing and reading weren’t always in her foremost thoughts. In fact, her love affair with writing came as a shock to everyone she knows, including herself. At a young age, she rarely opened a book, unless forced to read something for school. But that’s all behind her now. She wrote her first book several years ago, which turned out to be a surprisingly cathartic process, and she hasn’t been able to stop writing since.

A.J. loves going to the movies, watching her son play baseball, and communing with other writers. She’s a member of two writer’s groups and RWA. She lives in southeastern Michigan with her family, who are extremely tolerant (at least most of the time) of all her late nights behind the computer.

Along with contributing to Magical Pages Book Blog & Reviews, she’s currently working on book two of her Tattoo Crimes Series.

Her romantic suspense novel, Tattoo Killer (Book 1 of the Tattoo Crimes series), was published by Limitless, LLC in October 2016. Her Black Wings, book one of The Dark Amulet Series, a paranormal romance, released in July 2016 and book two, Her Black Heart released August 23, 2016. The third book in her Dark Amulet series, Her Black Soul, comes out April 11, 2017.
