Blu-ray Review - The Nut Job

The computer-animated film, The Nut Job, is arriving on Blu-ray 3D Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD and Digital HD on April 15th, which is just in time to a make a nifty Easter gift. Blu-ray exclusive features include deleted scenes, storyboards, The Great Nut Heist and Dance-Off End Credits. Additional features include animated shorts.

Animated films are either released during the summer or near the holidays, but The Nut Job was released in January, which is normally filled with movie rejects the studios were afraid to release the previous year. The Nut Job has an all-star voice cast of Will Arentt, Brendan Fraser, Gabriel Iglesias, Jeff Dunham, Liam Neeson and Katherine Heigl.

The Nut Job is set in 1959 and is centered on a squirrel named Surly, who is an outcast of the Liberty Park and is disliked by most of the animals living there, especially the leader Raccoon. He, along with rodent pal, Buddy, (who happens to look a lot like "Remy" from Disney's Ratatouille), steal whatever food they can get a hold and refuses to share with the other animals.

Surly and Buddy stumble upon a store called Maury's Nut Shop and the sneak inside with the plan to eat as much as they can, but the mob boss, King, and his crooks show up. The men are planning on digging a tunnel in the basement of the store that will lead them to a bank vault. Surly could care less about the crooks, as he is only interested in all the nuts stored in the store, but there is one problem - a guard dog named Precious.

The animals of Liberty Park don't have enough food to get past the next two weeks. Two squirrels, Grayson and Andie, are chosen to leave the park and search for food. After Andie is separated from Grayson, she must make a deal with Surly to help rob The Nut Store of all of its nuts.

Final Thoughts

The Nut Job received negative reviews from almost every critic. Despite barely making back its budget at the box-office, a sequel is in the works for 2016.

I disagree from the critics, as I thought the film was laugh out loud funny! This is no Disney movie, as there is a some rude humor and mild action, but it is clean-cut enough for kids and plenty of laughs for adults. Overall, I thought it was a cute funny movie. The Nut Job would make a great Easter gift.
