Review:

Arriving on DVD this week is DreamWorks Dragons: Defenders of Perk: Part 1, featuring ten episodes from the second season. Bonus features include Dragon Tracker Part 3, Evolution Of Screaming Death, "Superfly" Dragon Mash-Up, and World of DreamWorks Animation.

The computer-animated series, which airs on the Cartoon Network, is a sequel to 2010's How To Train Your Dragon, which is based on the children's book series of the same name by Cressida Cowell. The original voice actors Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T. J. Miller and David Tennant return for the series, which bridges the gap between the first film and this summer's sequel, How To Train Your Dragon 2.

The episodes on the two-disc set are:
  1. Live and Let Fly
  2. The Iron Gronckle
  3. The Night and the Fury
  4. Tunnel Vision
  5. Race to Fireworm Island
  6. Fright of Passage
  7. Worst in Show
  8. Appetite for Destruction
  9. Zippletback Down
  10. A View to a Skrill - Part 1
There is a lot in store for Hiccup, Astrid, Fishlegs, Snotlout and Tuffnut, along with their dragons, whom are continuing their training to become great warriors and defend their home, Berk, from enemies. Hiccup wants to be ready for anything, so he creates a “Dragon Flight Club" to help train other kids to fight a potential dragon army. He later gets caught up in a dragon-hunting expedition on Dragon Island. All of this leads to the cliffhanger ending in A View to a Skrill - Part 1, which a lightning-powered dragon is unleashed on Berk.

Animated series based on big feature films are normally cheap looking, but computer-animation used on Dragons: Defenders of Berk is outstanding. The series easily picks up where the first film left off with Hiccup and his young Viking friends training to be become warriors, while at the same time they must battle new enemies. Though a few voice actors were replaced from the original, the main characters' voices are still intact. Overall, DreamWorks Dragons: Defenders Of Berk - Part 1 contains ten exciting adventures that will thrill fan of all ages.
