DVD Review: John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum

AMAZON; WALMART
Probably by now everyone has heard of the action film series John Wick starring Keanu Reeves. The third film, John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum (R; 130 mins) was released to theatres back in May and took in over $321 million at the box office. The movie landed on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD yesterday from Lionsgate Home Entertainment. It's also available on Digital.

John Wick (played by Reeves) is a former assassin who comes out of retirement after some thugs murder his dog and steals his car. After John's vengeance was complete, he was dragged out of retirement again due to a blood marker (promise) which leads him to kill a member of the High Table (the shadowy international assassins' guild) at the New York City Continental. Killing anyone on "hollow ground" is a "no no" for the guild, so John is declared "excommunicado"with a $14 million bounty put on his head. And the bounty rises by the hour.

Chapter 3 picks up exactly where Chapter 2 ended, with an injured John trying to escape New York City but with assassins around every corner, he must fight his way out of the country. He heads to Casablanca to seek help from an ex-assassin Sofia (played by Halle Berry) in the attempt to find the Elder, the only person known to be above the High Table.

Meanwhile, the High Table sends an Adjudicator (played by Asia Kate Dillon) to New York City to clean house. She releases Winston (played by Ian McShane) of his duties as manager of the New York Continental Hotel and dethrones the Bowery King (played by Laurence Fishburne). Then she recruits a Japanese assassin, Zero (played by Mark Dacascos) to hunt down and kill John Wick!

DVD Special Features include:
  • Parabellum: Legacy of the High Table
  • Excommunicado
  • Theatrical Trailer #1
  • Theatrical Trailer #2
  • John Wick Hex Game Trailer
  • Behind the Scenes of John Wick Hex

Audiobook Review - Wake the Dead by Stacey Rourke

*This is a sponsored review. All opinions are 100% mine.

AMAZON
A long long time ago (a.k.a. ten years ago), I found myself becoming a fan of the supernatural television series after watching the first season of True Blood and a little bit later I became a fan of the "Sooke Stackhouse" book series by Charaline Harris. Then I started reading other supernatural authors, such as Laurell K. Hamilton and Kim Harrison.

In late August, I listened to my very first supernatural audiobook, titled Wake the Dead by Stacey Rourke, which is book one of six in The Journals of Octavia Hollows series. The paperback and eBook versions were released by Anchor Group Publishing back in February 2019. The Audio Flow just released the title as an audiobook on August 23rd with Brenda Scott Wlazlo as the narrator.

Wake the Dead centers around necromancer Octavia Hollows, a woman who has the ability to bring the dead back to life. Along with her pet pig, Bacon, Octavia finds herself helping to solve the mystery to why a young boy is rapidly growing old! The one and only person who might have knowledge to what is going on is the boy's nurse, Nikki, who happens to be dead!

Octavia must use her supernatural skills to bring Nikki back from the dead to solve the mystery. However, things are easier said than done as this nurse as a slew of issues that Octavia has to deal with first.

Blu-ray Review: Songwriter (1984)

*This is a sponsored review. All opinions are 100% mine.

Mill Creek Entertainment; Amazon

Late last night, I watched an old movie starring Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson called Songwriter, a musical drama that was original released to theaters to in 1984. I would have been a three-year-old back then, so I had no clue this movie even existed until it was released earlier this year to Blu-ray by Mill Creek Entertainment, which is part of their VHS Retro-Look Blu-rays.

Songwriter (R; 94 mins; $14.98) centers around country singers Doc Jenkins (played by Willie Nelson) and Blackie Buck (played by Kris Kristofferson). After working together for many years, the duo separate just as Doc's personal life becomes a huge train wreck. His wife, Honey (played by Melinda Dillon) kicks him out of the house and his manager, Rodeo Rocky (Richard C. Sarafian), steals the rights to his music.

In the attempt to get his career back on track, Doc becomes the manager for Blackie and a newbie singer, Gilda (played by Lesley Ann Warren).

Sunday Post: 9/1/19

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @  Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

Good Evening, Everyone!

What Am I Currently Reading?

The last two weeks haven't been the best for me due to my bad allergies which I blame on the rainy weather. I wish autumn would hurry up and get here as my allergies are always better in the Fall. Anyway, I'm currently reading The Witch Port Video Game by Leonard Bassed. It's a 106-page novella with tiny lettering. I'll be reviewing it later in the month for a Book Blog Tour. Then I'll probably be reading Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin.
