Arriving on DVD and Blu-ray on August 11th is the action-adventure Northmen: A Viking Saga. The film was released theatrical, on Digital HD and on iTunes yesterday. It's directed by Claudio Fäh (Hollow Man 2, Starship Troopers: Marauder, Sniper: Reloaded), the film stars Tom Hopper (Starz's Black Sails), Ryan Kwanten (HBO's True Blood), Ken Duken (Inglorious Basterds), Charlie Murphy (Ripper Street), Ed Skrein (The Transporter: Refueled), Anatole Taubman (Taken) and Johan Hegg (death-metal band Amon Amarth)! Included on the single-disc is the featurette Northmen: A Look Inside A Viking Saga.

From a screenplay by Matthias Bauer and Bastian Zach (One Way Trip 3D), Northmen: A Viking Saga tells the tale of a small group of Viking raiders lead by Asbjörn (played by Tom Hopper), whom were all outcast by their own people. With a price on a their heads, they hop on a longship with the hope of being taken in by the Viking settlement in Danelagh.


Unfortunately, the longship gets caught in a horrible storm and the Vikings quickly find themselves capsized on the rocky coast of Alba (Scotland) . Before they can even dry off, they are attacked by a band of King of Alba's soldiers, whom were all guarding an armored wagon. After losing one of their own in the battle and killing all the soldiers, the Vikings hoped to find goods in the wagon, but that's not exactly what happens as inside the wagon is the king's daughter - Inghean (played by Charlie Murphy).


At the time the Viking raiders don't know who she is, so thinking they could pay off the bounty on their heads, they take the girl hostage. Unknowingly to them, the king could care less about his daughter and sends his army, lead by Hjorr (played by Ed Skrein) and Bovarr (played by Anatole Taubman) to kill her.

The purple aliens called the Boov have been running from a powerful aliens called the Gorg, well, that is until they decide to make Earth their home. The Boov invade our planet and quickly relocates all humans to other parts of the country in "happy towns," while the aliens move into our homes. An unpopular Boov named named Oh (voiced by Jim Parsons) thought this would be a great time to meet new friends, but to his disappointment his homecoming party is a disaster. It seems his email invitations was sent to everyone in the universe, which means the Gorg will eventually know their location.


Consided a trader to his kind, Oh is on the run on planet Earth and his only help of survival is from a teenage girl, Gratuity "Tip" Tucc (voiced by Rihanna), whom barely escaped the relocation invasion, and her cat Pig. Oh agrees to help her travel to France to find information to where her mother was relocated to at the main Boov headquarters. Meanwhile, the Boovs are on the hunt for Oh as only he knows the password to his email account, so they can stop the Gorg from getting the invitation.

Review:

One of my favorite children book authors is Judy Blume. I recall reading the "Fudge" books during my elementary years as well as a few of her young adult novels. As I grew up, I continued to read her adult novels as well and even her later kids books, Double Fudge and the Pain and the Great One sequels.

Awhile back, I was sent a copy of Judy Blume's newest work - In the Unlikely Event. Honestly, I had no clue what the novel was about until I started reading it. I meant to have this review posted by the release date, but a few things came up and fell behind on a few reviews. Nevertheless, I reread the novel over the weekend to refresh my mind before I began writing this review.

In the Unlikely Event starts out with Miri Ammerman heading back to her hometown of Elizabeth, New Jersey to attend the commemoration of the three deadly plane crashes that took place during the winter of 1951-1952. Then books heads back in time thirty-five years when Miri was fifteen-years-old, living with her single-mother, uncle and grandmother during the holiday season of 1951.

Before Syfy (formerly the Scifi Channel) began making shark and python movies, the channel use to (still does from time to time) air disaster flicks. Recently, Mill Creek Entertainment released the 2-disc Storms Of The Century DVD, featuring five low-budget movies disaster films - Flood, Flood - A River's Nightmare, Killer Wave, Tidal Wave: No Escape and Tornado! There are no special features or extras.

Flood is a 2007 British film that saw a limited release (the 110-minute version) in theaters before the 196-minute version debuted on television in two parts. Based on the book of the same name by Richard Doyle and directed by Tony Mitchell, the film stars Robert Carlyle, Jessalyn Gilsig and Tom Hardy. The plot centers on a huge storm that floods London!


Flood - A River's Nightmare is a 1998 made-for-television. It's set in small farming town in Missouri during the 1993 flood. It stars Richard Thomas and Kate Vernon. It's not a great movie, so I won't go into any more details.


Killer Wave is a mini-series that aired in 2007. It starred Anagus Macfadyen, Jarine Vanasse and Tom Skeritt. The plot centers on a man-made cataclysms that triggered a massive tidal wave that is flooding cities coast to coast.
