The Bridge: Season One DVD Giveaway

Top 5 Things You Need to Know about The Bridge

THE PEABODY AWARD*-WINNING SERIES ARRIVES ON BLU-RAY™ AND DVD ON JUNE 24

The Bridge Season 1

This gripping crime thriller set on the U.S.-Mexico border has emerged as one of TV’s most acclaimed new shows. When a murder victim is discovered on the bridge connecting El Paso and Juarez, detective Sonya Cross (Diane Kruger) must work with her Mexican counterpart, Marco Ruiz (Demián Bichir), to catch a serial killer terrorizing both sides of the border. But their investigation will uncover shocking secrets and relentless danger that neither of them could possibly have imagined. The Bridge is a co-production of Shine America and FX Productions. In celebration of the show’s Blu-ray and DVD releases, we present to you the top 5 things you need to know about The Bridge. *Peabody Award, 2014

1. The part of Detective Marco Ruiz is not Demián Bichir’s first American role.

Demián Bichir was a very successful actor in Mexico before finding footing in American entertainment. Bichir actually moved to New York, and later L.A., to pursue an acting career but couldn’t find any work. He decided to go back to Mexico where he was part of many popular telenovelas. Sexo, pudor y lágrimas (1999) proved to be his Mexican movie breakout after it became the number one film in the history of the country’s cinema. Bichir widened his American audience by playing the corrupt Tijuana mayor, Esteban Reyes, in the Showtime series Weeds (2008). He became only the second Mexican actor (Anthony Quinn being the first) to receive an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role nomination for his performance in A Better Life (2011).

2. Diane Kruger wanted to be a ballerina.

The Book Thief Blu-ray Giveaway

SOME OF OUR FAVORITE YOUNG ADULT NOVELS TURNED INTO MOVIES

To celebrate the March 11th Blu-ray and DVD release of The Book Thief, the film adaptation of Markus Zusak’s bestselling novel starring Sophie Nelisse and Geoffrey Rush, we’re taking a look at some of the best young adult literature that has made the move to the silver screen in recent years.

Harry Potter

The mother of all young adult book franchises also became one of the highest-earning movie franchises in history. The films have grossed over $7.7 billion worldwide and launched the careers of young acting phenoms Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe.

The Hunger Games

America’s reigning sweetheart, Jennifer Lawrence, was already an Oscar-nominee before landing the coveted role of Katniss Everdeen in the adaptation of the outrageously popular book trilogy by Suzanne Collins, but the film’s success made her an international superstar.

The Twilight Saga

It’s hard to imagine a world where teens didn’t erupt in fits of excitement at the mere mention of Robert Pattinson or Taylor Lautner, but before the 2008 adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s tale of supernatural young love hit theaters, both were relatively unknown.

Out of the Furnace Blu-ray Giveaway

THE MANY LOOKS OF CHRISTIAN BALE

In honor of the March 11th Blu-ray and DVD release of OUT OF THE FURNACE we’re taking a look at some of the most distinctive styles of the chameleon actor.

BLUE-COLLAR BALE

In Out of the Furnace, Bale plays Russell Baze, a down-on-his-luck steel worker in a small town in Pennsylvania. The long, stringy hair, unkempt facial hair, oversized clothing and conspicuous neck tat make him look the part of a working class hero who may have had one too many run-ins with the law.

BAT-BALE

Bale had big shoes to fill when he stepped into the caped crusader’s costume in 2005 for Batman Begins, but his performance ended up being so remarkable it breathed new life into the iconic character. He bulked up to bring a heroic physicality to the role without seeming out of place in one of Bruce Wayne’s designer suits.

HUSTLER BALE

The usually svelte Bale really let himself go for his Oscar-nominated role as Irving Rosenfeld, a smarmy, middle-aged grifter living in 1970’s Long Island. From the film’s first scene where a portly Bale spends an uncomfortably long amount of time making sure his greasy comb-over is coiffed just right, you know this isn’t the Hollywood hunk we’re used to seeing.

Do You Have a Virtual Phone Number? ($100 Visa Gift Card Giveaway!)

I guess you can say I was an anti-cell phone person until I received a prepaid cell phone for Christmas in 2012. I've never cared much for talking on a phone, but a cell phone does come in handy when there is an emergency or you need to ask someone a quick question. I even find myself texting more often than I do calling someone.

When I first activated my cell phone, I was instantly given a phone number, which of course the first three numbers were my area code. I'm more than fine by having an area code as my cell number, but there some people, especially those who travel, who don't want an area code attached to their number.

Businessman and women, lawyers, agents, etc, have to travel around the world all year long, but there are times when they have to be at a business meeting on the other side of the country. There is no such thing as a Superman or Supergirl, so you can't just fly there in a minute, but instead you  can use your cell phone, iPad or Tablet to virtually attend the meeting.

When doing this, you'll need a virtual phone number!

Advantages of a business virtual phone number are:

  • Save Money On Your Phone Account
  • Establish a Virtual Office Anywhere Around the World
  • Quickly Manage Incoming Business Calls
  • Phone Calls Will Be Forward To Wherever You Are Currently Located.

The Future of Real Estate

I’m always interested in the different ways women can make a business work from home. It seems like every day there’s a new idea and the success stories are always inspiring. Recently I heard about Dean Graziosi and his effort to help stay at home moms. Dean Graziosi is a Real Estate investor and he’s spent a number of years training individuals on techniques and processes that have helped him find success.

In his opinion regardless of your location, urban or rural there is a place for you to fit in. His philosophy interests me so I sent an email to his site and explained a little about my blog and its purpose. I was surprised at his people's response, they are sending me 2 of his best selling books. One book is for me and one book is for me to give away to a reader that has a interest in Real Estate. The book is supposed to contain helpful information to help us get started in the world of real estate investing.

I think this will be fun and exciting, the drawing and give away will be completed 3 weeks from today so please sign up if your interested. Graziosi offers helpful slide share videos and articles weekly. To give a little more information I will post some kind training from him once a week for the next 3 weeks. I think this will help us get a better understanding of who he is and what he is trying to help stay at home moms accomplish. Like I said before, I’m always interested in the different ways women can make a business work from home, learning about real estate investing should be fun.

The Family Blu-ray Giveaway!

A Quick Guide to French (for the Italian American Gangster

What happens when a family of Italian American mobsters get relocated to Northern France as a part of a radically ambitious witness protection program? This common conundrum is something that prolific French filmmaker, Luc Besson, tackles head on in his latest feature, The Family, which is available on Blu-ray and DVD on Dec. 17. For fear of untangling too many plot spoilers, we are going to celebrate the release of this feature by coming up with an essential guide to the language of romance. For all you readers out there who are finding the mafia life too much and want to swap your semi-automatic pistol for a freshly made brie and jam baguette, please read on….

Pleasantries

Many people consider the French to be a tad rude. But upon moving to France, it will be you who will be receiving the cold shoulder if you don’t introduce standard politeness strategies into your broken French vocabulary. Here are a few key phrases you will need to charm and woo your new countrymen:

  1. On peut se tutoyer? – Unlike in English, the French have different ways of saying the word ‘you’. One you, ‘tu, is used when you know someone well and is relatively informal. The other, ‘vous’, is much more formal and is usually used when speaking to people who don’t know very well. Simply put, ‘On peut se tutoyer?’ means ‘can I refer to you informally’. When you’ve made your first French friend, this might be a useful phrase to use to cement your first relationship!
  2. Je Vous prèsente…/ Je te prèsente… – Loaded with your new identity and your status as a US mobster a distant memory, there will come a point where you are going to have to introduce your family by their new names. It certainly won’t be easy remembering your own new name, let alone all of your family members! Add to the equation that you are going to have to do this in fluent French and you have a potential disaster on your hands! Don’t panic. If you use this phrase (which literally means- I present to you) before naming each of your loved ones, you will be successfully conning the locals in no time.
  3. Je vous remercie de tout cœur- I thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you really want to embrace politeness with the upmost romanticism, this is a great phrase to use (even if it is just a false pretence).
