Welcome to the Book Blogger Hop!
This Week's Prompt:
As a book lover, what’s your biggest fear?
My Answer:
My biggest fear is that big-box stores like Walmart and Target will phase out physical books. I live in a small town with no real bookstores, just a Walmart and a few dollar stores. Recently, the Walmart here has significantly reduced its book section, and they rarely restock the selection. There are two other Walmarts in separate counties, both with much larger book sections. I worry that these two Walmarts will also shrink their book offerings. While I can order books online, I prefer to browse and look over a book before buying it, especially if I’m not already familiar with the author.

That is something to consider! I do enjoy perusing the book aisles at both these stores. I particularly like when they have an exclusive edition with bonus content or alternate cover to a book I enjoy or want to read. I hope this never happens!

Have a GREAT day!

I understand. Anything the reduces access to books is a concern. That said, we moved to Europe 15 months ago, so I am purely digital now. The lack of being able to browse is a problem. I end up buying a lot of on sale books, and use a subscription service like Kindle Unlimited to keep from spending an inordinate amount on books I may ultimately dislike.
ReplyDeleteThat's a very real fear. I can drive to lots of bookstores out of town, but one day I might be able to do so.
ReplyDeleteThat is scary. Whilst I have Waterstones near me and The Works, there aren't any Independent bookshops near me. I am very lucky in that in my county there are 99 libraries so it would take a lot for everything to go.
ReplyDeleteHave a good weekend.
I completely understand—there’s something special about browsing books in person and discovering one you weren’t even looking for. I hope physical books always have a place in our stores. Happy Reading!
