Hello, fellow Friday 56ers!
I hope everyone is doing well! You might be wondering where I’ve been. I’ve been busy with a lot of other things besides reading and blogging, which is why I’ve lagged on posts lately. The weather has been unexpectedly autumn-like for the past few days, following a stretch of hot weather that brought heavy rain and multiple tornado warnings. Thankfully, the house and trees are still standing, although there were a lot of branches down from a storm in late April. Overall, it has just been a lot of rain.
On a brighter note, my father is recovering well from his knee replacement surgery. He no longer needs to use a CPM machine and has been using a cane. He has even managed a few walks, despite the rain. He’s feeling good—good enough that he wants to see The Mandalorian & Grogu. So, this afternoon, we’re planning to catch the Star Wars film at a theater in the next county.
For this week’s Friday 56, hosted by My Head is Full of Books, I’ve chosen the Western novel Silent Stalker by Lane R. Warenski. It’s the fifth book in the Frontier Scout series. The publisher sent me an eBook to review, so it will be my next read or at least the next one on my Kindle.
Now, here’s a preview from page 56:
Caleb had taught her how to handle and shoot his own Navy Colt, so she knew how to use it, even if she didn't want to.

I am glad to hear that your Dad is doing better. I just got done watching the The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. His last because of CBS canceling the show (at Trump's insistence). I feel so broken hearted for the US tight now. I'm crying. Thanks for playing along on Friday56.
ReplyDeleteI do my best to avoid political topics on my blog. Personally, I never found Stephen Colbert funny, and I think his political views are overly extreme and too left-wing. I haven’t watched any late-night shows in years, except for a few clips from The Daily Show on YouTube.
DeleteCBS could have replaced Colbert with a different host instead of canceling The Late Show altogether. If it was truly about ratings, why did CBS keep the show on for a final season? It seems pretty clear that President Trump influenced the decision to remove Colbert. An abuse of power?
That's wonderful news about your dad. Enjoy the movie!
ReplyDeleteI haven't been to a theater in years, except for the local one-screen volunteer-run theater. The total cost for one adult and two senior-discounted tickets was about $50—my mom went along. The discount was a modest 25 cents each. I purchased a small drink-and-popcorn combo; my dad got a medium popcorn; and my mom chose a bottled Diet Dr. Pepper, which cost $6!
DeleteWe sat in the handicap aisle, so my dad wouldn't have to navigate the steps. There were only four other people in the theater. I enjoyed the movie, but my mom disliked it because she thought there were too many action scenes, while my dad found it too loud.
Good news about your dad! I hope the movie lives up to his excitement!
ReplyDeleteInteresting 56 quote. Have you read all in the series before this one?
Nope. This is the first one I've read.
