{Sunday Post} - A Slow Fire Burning, Oblivion's Gate, and The Christmas Promise

Good Evening, Everyone! 


My ravioli dinner is currently cooling as I am typing this post. Nothing exciting has happened in my life since my last Sunday Post two weeks ago. I'm still behind in writing reviews, so that shouldn't be a shocker to anyone. 





 

What Am I Reading?


I'm finally reading The Living Dead novel that I've talked about many times over the past month. I had planned on reading it last week, but I read two Star Trek novels instead. Gallery Books sent me an ARC of Star Trek: Coda: Oblivion's Gate by David Mack. It's the Trek "litverse" finale, and I had to read it right away. The electricity in my town was out from 1:45 AM to 5:45 AM on Wednesday for some unknown reason. For the life of me, I couldn't fall back asleep. So, I located my Kindle in the dark and read Star Trek: The Klingon Gambit by Robert E. Vardeman.


Whenever I finish The Living Dead, I will read The Christmas Promise by Richard Paul Evans.

What's in the Mail? 


The only recent books in the mail are the titles I mentioned earlier - Star Trek: Coda: Oblivion's Gate and The Christmas Promise.




What's New On the Bookshelf?


Even though I already own this, I picked Prelude to Foundation by Isaac Asimov at a Dollar General store for $3. Why? I like the cover. Also, I got The Heart of What Was Lost by Tad Williams at a Family Dollar / Dollar Tree hybrid for $1.


At one of those early Black Friday sales at Walmart, I picked up A Slow Fire Burning by Paula Hawkins for $14. 


Have you ever received a $5 Kindle credit (discount) email from Amazon.com? I get these emails once in a great while for specific books on my wishlist. Anyway, yesterday I received a $5 credit for Dune: House Atreides by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson and ended up buying it for $4.99.

    Will be interesting to see what you think of the Tad Williams. I loved his Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series but couldn't get into his later fantasy stuff.

    Violet Orlandi has a nice voice and Sershen & Zaritskaya are always fun.
