Sunday Post - Pokergeist, Dragonheart, and Star Wars

Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer!

Good Morning, Everyone!

What Am I Currently Reading?

I didn't stick to my reading plan last week. Instead of reading The Chill by Scott Carson, I read a few Hellraiser graphic novels and read a couple of chapters of Casino Royale (the first James Bond novel) by Ian Fleming.

FYI: I have a goal of reading all Fleming's James Bond books before the new movie, No Time to Die, is released in early April.

For this week, I'll be reading Pokergeist by Michael Phillip Cash and my review will be posted on Wednesday for a book tour. Then I'll be reading the zombie novel Weeks for another book tour. My review for it will be posted on the 24th.

Then I'll probably be reading The Chill, if I don't attempt to squeeze it in between Pokergeist and Weeks.

What's In the Mail?

There were no ARCs in the mail but I did receive the V.C. Andrew's Casteel Family DVD from Lionsgate Home Entertainment, which contains the made-for-TV movies Heaven, Dark Angel, Fallen Hearts, Gates of Paradise, and Web of Dreams.

Also, I received the Dragonheart: Vengeance Blu-ray from Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, a movie that was released on Feb. 4th. It was sent by FedEX and I had to sign for it, which I thought was weird. Why do I need to sign for a movie that is already available to the public?

I haven't watched either titles yet. I already saw the the Casteel movies when they aired on Lifetime last year so I'll just play the films in the background while I'm working on other stuff. There are no special feature or extras. The only thing I really need to check for my review are the video and sound qualities.

As for Dragonheart: Vengeance, I'm planning on watching it either this afternoon or late tonight.

More Star Wars Books!

By now you can clearly tell I'm on a quest to collect all the Star Wars Expanded Universe titles. I'm not planning on getting all of the titles at once but I will definitely jump on a good deal when I find one.

Last month, I put a 11 Star Wars book lot in my watchlist on eBay. I never made a bid for it and it sold to someone else. I'm guessing the sale didn't through as I later received a message that the books were relisted. I ended up getting the books for $10.80 shipped.

The titles are:

Dark Apprentice (The Jedi Academy, book 2) and Champions of the Force (The Jedi Academy, book 3) by Kevin J. Anderson; The Empire Strikes Back by Donald F. Glut; Tales From The Empire edited by Peter Schweighofer; Tyrant's Test (The Black Flee Crisis, book 3) by Michael P. Kube-McDowell; The New Jedi Order: Dark Tide 1: Onslaught by Michael A. Stackpole, The New Jedi Order: Agents of Chaos I: Hero's Trial by James Luceno; The New Jedi Order: Enemy Lines II: Rebel Stand by Aarron Allston; The New Jedi Order: Force Heretic III: Reunion by Sean Williams and Shane Dix, The New Jedi Order: Dark Journey by Elaine Cunningham; and The New Jedi Order: Edge of Victory I: Conquest by Greg Keyes.

To my surprise when I opened the box, there was an extra book - Star Wars: Orgami by Chris Alexander. So for 12 books, I paid $1.11 per title. Now there were two titles I already own - Agents of Chaos I: Hero's Trial and Tyrant's Test but for the price I don't mind having duplicates.

Separately, I purchased X-Wing: Rogue Squadron by Michael A. Stackpole, so I now have all the X-Wing books. And, I also got Jedi Search (The Jedi Academy, book 3).

Library Finds

I stopped by the local library to renew my library card and to see if they had the new book Star Trek: Picard: The Last Great Hope. Surprisingly, the library doesn't carry one single Star Trek title, even though there are over 850 titles. (Yep, I had to "google" for that number).

It wasn't a wasted trip, I ended up checking out Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Prachett and The Girl Who Lived Twice by David Lagercrantz.

When am I going to read these?

It's called multi-task reading!

What's New on the Bookshelf?

From NetGalley, I received The Crow's Call by Wanda E. Brunstetter. From Edelweiss, I was sent copies of Wasteland and Witch's Oath by Terry Goodkind, which are both part of The Children of d'hara series. Also, I was sent an ARC of Ghost Hunters: Bones in the Wall by Susan McCauley for an upcoming book tour.

Just yesterday, I purchased the eBook Back to Brooklyn by Lawrence Ketler, which is the sequel to movie My Cousin Vinny.

  1. I've never read a Bond book although I'm curious. I've seen other bloggers talk about Ian Fleming's books a bit and I've thought about taking the plunge a few times...

Love the look of those Star Wars books. It's funny, now that the last Skywalker movie has come out, I'm curious to go back and see how the older expanded Universe books handled things. One of these days...

    1. The first James Book book I read was the novelization of World Is Not Enough, way back when I was in high school. I know I have the original paperbacks of Casino Royale, Goldfinger (2 copies with different covers), Doctor No, and The Man With The Golden Gun. I'm not 100% sure but I might also own a copy of Thunderball somewhere. Also, I have a variety of James Bond books written by other authors.

The version of Casino Royale that I'm currently reading is from Kindle Unlimited. I got a $.99 3 month deal at the beginning of the year, so I'm using it to read all of Flemings's James Bond stories.

I haven't seen The Rise of Skywalker yet. I'm waiting for it to come out on Blu-ray. I haven't cared too much for Disney's Star Wars movies, which is one of the reasons why I'm taking an interest in reading the EU.

    2. Same here w/ the Disney star Wars stuff. Haven't been a huge fan and the thing I like about the EU is that you get to see a little of Luke/ Leia/ Han in their prime, after RotJ, which is obviously not something we got to see in the movies. that whole aftermath of RotJ timeframe interests me a lot!

I'm a fan of some older Bond movies too so the thought of having paperback editions of Dr No or Thunderball, for example, is kind of appealing. :)

  2. Good deal on the Star Wars books! I often forget there's a whole load of books out there that expand the world... Hope you enjoy them.

    1. I believe the EU ended 40+ years after A New Hope. During that time, many characters were killed off, including Chewbacca and Han & Leia's son, Anakin.
