Don't you know how many women's lives, how many women's bodies, the tanks had to roll over just to get that far?

  My Thoughts

I'm pretty sure everyone has probably heard about the popular Hulu series The Handmaid's Tale. I don't have a Hulu subscription so I waited and bought the first season on DVD as soon as it was released. Then I bought the second season on DVD last December. However, I never took out the time to actually watch the series until I binge-watched the entire first season earlier this week. And, as I'm writing this post, I've already watched the first episode of season two. Let's just say, I'm addicted to the series and I'm going to be purchasing the season 3 DVD when it gets released next week.

As you probably already know by now, I'm featuring The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood as this week's Friday 56. I stumbled upon not just one but two paperback copies at a thrift store in July 2017, which was just a few weeks after the first season ended. I didn't even know the series was based on a book until I discovered the two "1987" editions. I picked out the better of the two and purchased it for 25 cents. I had completely forgotten about the book until I was cleaning up my library (a.k.a. closets) last week and I ran across it, which reminded me that I also owned the DVDs. Anyway, I would like to read The Handmaid's Tale over the weekend.

  1. What a amazing and disturbing book. I read it years ago but maybe should reread it before I read TESTAMENTS. My Friday quotes

    1. The TV series is disturbing so I figured the book would be too. I just bought Testaments on eBay yesterday. I read somewhere that Hulu will be adapting the sequel into a series.

  2. I loved this one, but haven't watched the series. The book was hard enough to get through at times. Happy weekend!

  3. It's been ages since I've read this - I'm going to have to reread it since I've watched the show. :)

  4. The Handmaid's Tale is such an awesome book. I do subscribe to Hulu, but I have yet to see the show. Perhaps someday . . . I hear it ties well into the new book Atwood published. Have a great weekend, Billy!
