Sunday Post / It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

It's Monday! What Are You Reading? is a weekly meme hosted by The Book Date.

Good Evening, Everyone!

This past week sucked!!! The weather has been horrible with a few ice storms. Just as my cold/sore throat was finally gone, I caught the flu bug. The only good news is that I finally got some much needed sleep; many thanks to my electric blanket.

My grandma fell again a few days ago. Instead of using the call button to get help, she decided to scoot herself to the foot of the bed, where she slipped off and fell to the floor. She was taken to the medical clinic for an x-ray. Nothing is broken, but she does have a pulled muscle in her leg. Due to the weather nobody could get to the nursing home this week, so she was a little upset today (Saturday) at us. My mother told her to stay in the wheelchair! Don't get up! Use the call button for help! Then my grandmother tried to change the subject, which is a bad habit of hers for the last six months or so. I spent most of today (Saturday) helping my mother box up some of my grandma's things. We'll be there again tomorrow, but I don't know how much packing we can get done as we're running out of boxes. My aunt is supposed to be getting the storage unit on Tuesday.

What Am I Currently Reading?

I'm taking a guess that I'm still reading The Passage by Justin Crown. Remember, I'm writing this on post on Saturday at about 5 o'clock in the evening and I'm currently on page 387. At the rate I've been reading, I might have this book read by Sunday morning or somewhere close to it. Then I'll start reading The Twelve and The City of Mirrors, which both are under 600 pages with bigger print.

Last Week's Reviews

Self-Discipline

The Making of Mrs. Hale
(Winter Reads)

Lonesome Dove

In the Mail

I received a copy of the new thriller The Last Night by by Andrea Bratz, which I'll probably be reading sooner than later. Mill Creek Entertainment sent me the Hostel & Hostel Part II: Horror Double Feature Blu-ray and the Lonesome Dove DVD. You can find my reviews for those two titles up above in this post. Lastly, I received the Bohemian Rhapsody Blu-ray yesterday afternoon from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. I should have my review posted for the movie on Monday.

New On My Bookshelf

New books on my Kindle are The Stillwater Girls by Minka Kent and Lineage: A Supernatural Thriller by Joe Hart.

  1. I'm sorry your grandma fell again - and that none of you were able to go visit with her! I hope she'll feel better soon, and that the weather will permit visits, too.
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading (and writing!!)

    1. My grandmother is a stubborn woman. She doesn't like when someone tells her what to do, even if it's for her own good.

I spent over three hours today wrapping newspapers around knick-knacks and boxing them up. There's pretty much no room to move around in my grandma's apartment, so I'll have to wait until my aunt gets the storage unit, which is supposed to be on Tuesday, before I can do any more packing. Plus, I need to find some more boxes.

  2. Poor Grandma. I hope she doesn't try to get up on her own again.

I LOVED the Lonesome Dove book. I didn't watch the movie (series??) on purpose because I didn't think it could possibly be as good as the book.

I started my first Sarra Cannon book yesterday. I thought it'd be girly and feel very young. Um, nope. I'm pleasantly surprised!

    Happy reading!

    1. Lonesome Dove was a miniseries based on Larry McMurtry's novel. I believe there was a short-lived TV series that aired right after the second miniseries Return to Lonesome Dove, which weren't based on McMurtry's writings. There was an "official" miniseries called Streets of Laredo and later two prequels, Dead Man's Walk and Comanche Moon, which are all based on the books of the same names by McMurtry.

I have never read any of the Lonesome Dove books.

  3. Oh no, the flu plagued my house too. I hope you feel better. I also hope that your grandma is starting to feel better. My grandma is always stubborn too. Hopefully the weather settles so that you can visit her more.

  4. Sorry about your Grandma. It's hard for them when they aren't able to get around as much as before. I hope she doesn't fall again. And I hope it warms up too! Having family members that you want to visit is even more difficult when the weather is frightful.

  7. Nice variety of books. We are getting snow instead of ice but it is still hard to get out and do anything. I'm sorry to hear that your grandmother fell again. I hope she is following orders now. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  11. I'm sorry to hear about your grandma's fall. My mom (91) is doing great in PT after she fell and fractured her hip. In her doc visit today, they agreed she can move out of the higher care area to a regular room there next Monday (less than a month).

I hope you are feeling much better and can enjoy some books! Anne - Books of My Heart
