Q&A with Gina Conkle, author of Waiting For A Girl Like You

Being released today is the romantic novel Waiting For A Girl Like Me, book one in the Kissables series, by author Gina Gonkle.

The author has taken a few minutes out of her busy schedule for a Q&A about her newest novel.

When did you become interested in storytelling?

I knew in 5th grade I wanted to be a writer. It wasn’t until 2002/2003 that I sat down and did it.

What was your first book/story published?

Norse Jewel, a Viking romance in 2013

What inspired you to write Waiting for a Girl Like You?

The book is two stories in one. The Proper Care and Feeding of a Broken Heart came from a brothel I’d heard about in my old hometown of San Diego and some of the escapades I’d heard.

Anything But Safe was inspired by an intersection of an Alicia Rasley workshop and a chance encounter in a parking lot years ago.

What character in Waiting for a Girl Like You is the most/least like you, and in what ways?

I identify with Abbie Rutledge (in The Proper Care and Feeding of a Broken Heart). When she made a crack about all the “Please spank me Mr. Billionaire books” that was my humor.

What is your favorite part in Waiting for a Girl Like You?

My favorite part in The Proper Care and Feeding of a Broken Heart is chapter three/chapter four. Mark thinks he’s got the situation under his control, but Abbie’s openness and honesty turns the tables.

In Anything But Safe, I loved the first chapter. Talkative Jennifer can’t string two words together when well-kissed.

What was the hardest part to write?

The heat level. It was new ground for me.

What would your ideal career be, if you couldn't be an author?

I would go back to teaching elementary school.

Do you read reviews of your books? If so, do you pay any attention to them, or let them influence your writing?

I read certain reviewers and certain reader reviews. I take their feedback into consideration but once I start writing, I’m in a zone. Good and bad reviews evaporate and it’s just me and the page.

Do you have any other books/stories in the works?

To Heal a Viking Heart (book 3, Norse series) spring, 2017
How to Steal a Kilt (book 2, Kissables series) spring, 2017
Meet a Rogue at Midnight (book 2.5, Midnight Meetings series) fall, 2017
The Lord Meets His Lady (book 3, Midnight Meetings series) December, 2017
