Top 5 Best Book Covers: Halloween Edition

Top 5 Best Book Covers

You may remember three Top 5 Best Book Covers from last year started my former co-blogger, Camelle. I thought it would be a fun idea to bring back the Top 5 Best Covers as a monthly meme. The meme will begin on the first Saturday of every month.

This month is slightly different. Instead of posting the Top 5 Best Book Covers of new releases this month, the October meme is to post your favorite top 5 new or upcoming releases with the scariest covers.

The meme's rules are simple:

  • Grab the Top 5 Best Book Covers button!
  • Post your 5 favorite books covers that are being released in the current month!
  • You can use a blurb or book synopsis in your post.
  • Put your blog URL in the Linky.
  • Visit other blogs and comment on their 5 picks

Billy's Thoughts: I'm a huge horror movie fan, so I instantly liked this cover.

Set in 1991 in Atlanta, Georgia, "The Raping of Ava DeSantis" tells the story of a working class college student who is brutally attacked by three wealthy fraternity brothers, then confronted with the decision of a lifetime: accept money to stay quiet or seek justice with the police. What she does in response is the basis of this captivating woman’s revenge thriller story that will have readers talking for years to come.

With brilliantly written characters, bone-chilling, fast-paced scenes and a double twist ending, "The Raping of Ava DeSantis" is the perfect blend of suspense, thriller and horror — guaranteed to entertain both female and male readers alike.

Billy's Thoughts: By reading the title and glancing at the cover, you know that this is going to be a chiling read. I'll be writing a review for this title later in the month.

A farmer looks forward to selling his little chickies but what exactly are they? Why is this ad man always doodling gargoyles? Are they following him? Is working alone in the file room healthy for this young woman or is there something in there? And what's that howling in the Yukon darkness? Is it as dangerous as a paper cut?

Billy's Thoughts: This cover is more of a throwback to the old '80s horror VHS covers.

This is the extraordinary novel that has captured millions in its spell!

Jo Cartwright is travelling to Tokyo without her ever-attentive husband. Persuaded to take advantage of her unexpected liberty, she accompanies her friends for a night out on the town.

A night out that ends in murder. Police Inspector Okitsu claims an open-and-shut case against a local man, suspected of being a serial killer. Sergeant Mitsu Ota disagrees. She knows the vengeful spirit Kuchisake-onna, the slit-mouthed woman, has returned.

Who is right? Is there really a ghost of an abused woman killing at random? If so, why is she so interested in Jo? What does Kuchisake-onna see in the nervous, downtrodden Westerner? What parallels exist between them? And why is Kuchisake-onna interested in Jo’s husband, the domineering Richard Cartwright?

Can Sergeant Ota stop Kuchisake-onna? Can she understand what motivates the spirit of the dead woman? Will she be able to save Jo? Whatever happens, Sergeant Ota is going to learn that the actions of a vengeance demon are nothing compared to the horror of domestic abuse and conforming to traditional values..

Billy's Thoughts: This cover is crazy!
