If you're not already aware, Jurassic World is the biggest film of the year with over $1.6 billion in box-office sales so far. The previous three films have played on cable channels dozens of times over the summer to tie-in with the new movie and there have been a slew of ripoffs that were released to DVD, including Mill Creek Entertainment's Jurassic Adventures: 4-Movie Collection, which includes The Lost World, Return to the Lost World, Adventures in Dinotopia and Journey to the Center of the Earth. Now I wouldn't exactly call this a remake as two of the films featured here were released a year before the original Jurassic Park arrived in theaters in 1993. Plus, these four titles are loosely based on books.

Directed by Timothy Bond, The Lost World centers on Professor George Edward Challenger (played by John Rhys-Davies) who leads a scientific team to the strange lands deep in the African jungle where dinosaurs are believed to still exist. While the journey is fascinating, it is also extremely dangerous for them.


Released the same year (1992) is the direct-to-video sequel Return to the Lost World. With the same director and cast, the sequel centers on Professor Challenger and his team returning to the lost world to protect it from evil men that have ventured there to drill for oil.

Every diehard horror fan knows the name "Hammer Films," the British production company released a slew of Gothic horror flicks throughout the mid 1950s until the 1970s. Now available town on DVD from Mill Creek Entertainment is the two-disc Hammer Films Collection, featuring five frightening movies - The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll, Scream of Fear!, The Gorgon, Stop Me Before I Kill!, and The Curse Of The Mummy's Tomb.

Also known as the House of Fright and Jekyll's Inferno, The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll (1960) was directed by Terence Fisher and starred Paul Massie as Henry Jekyll, a man whom is heartbroken when he learns that his wife, Kitty has cheated on him with Paul Allen (played by Christopher Lee). Out of his mind, he creates a potion that turns him into a crazed killer.


Scream of Fear (original titled Taste of Fear) was directed by Seth Holt and was released to theaters in 1961. It centers on a paralyzed woman (played by Susan Strasberg) returns to her family home to unravel the mystery behind her father's disappearance. Christopher Lee is also featured in this tale.


The late Christopher Lee also starred in the 1964's The Gorgon. Directed by Terence Fisher, the film was set in 1910 in rural village of Germany and centered on the aftermath of seven murders that occurred during the span of five years. Each victim was turned into stone! Peter Rushing also co-stars in this Greek mythology inspired film.

It's almost hard to believe that the first Goosebumps title by R.L. Stine was published in 1992. I was nearly twelve-years-old when I stumbled upon "Welcome to Dead House" in the book section at a Walmart and I've been a fan of the series ever since. This is a big year for Goosebumps fans as the first feature film will released in October with Jack Black playing a fictional version of R.L. Stine. Until then, fans can entertain themselves with the newest book - Goosebumps Most Wanted: Special Edition #3 - Trick Or Trap!

This installment centers on Scott Harmon, a twelve-year-old that is afraid of almost anything, especially his little sister, Rita, who is always playing tricks on him and his best friend, Amanda Gold. Rita isn't the only one that likes to bother them as the school bullies, Morty and Mickey, are always trying to scare them, which they always succeed in doing.

To prove that he isn't a scaredy cat and that he has the guts to standup to the bullies, he talks Amanda in going with him to the old abandoned house near the cemetery that everyone thinks is haunted! The plan is to have Amanda take a picture of Scott inside the house, but things don't exactly go as planned.

It's been a very busy month and I almost forgot about reading the final book in the Journey of the Heart series by bestselling author Colleen Coble.  If I remembered correctly, the six-part series started back in March with A Heart's Disguise, which focused on Sarah Montgomery, but starting with the fourth book, A Heart's Betrayal, the main character changed to Sarah's friend Emmie Croftner.

Emmie had high hopes of having a wonderful marriage, well, that is until her husband died and she later learned that he was actually married to another woman. Heartbroken, she left her home for a new life in the Wyoming Territory, where her old friend Sarah and her husband Rand kindly took her in. Shockingly after arriving, Emmie realizes she is pregnant.

After winning the affections of a solider, Isaac Liddle, Emmie is looking forward to getting married and raising her child. Life is full of twists & turns, especially when a friend dies and Emmie is forced to make a life-changing promise.

I'm sure by now that all my blog readers know that I'm somewhat of a bookworm, but you might be surprised that I'm not the biggest eBook reader. I prefer to have a physical book in my hands and be able to taken in the scent of the printed paper. Nevertheless, I do get several opportunities to review advanced copies of novels, which most are in eBook formats, which is one of the reasons why I own a Kindle.

Like I already said, I don't care for reading eBooks because I'm forced to sit in front of my computer to read a book. The good thing about a Kindle is that I can read the eBook anywhere I go. Now this is great for during the daytime hours, but the device is difficult to read late at night.

Earlier this summer, I was sent the Kandle Reading Light by Ozeri to test out and review. The device fits most Kindles as well as other eBook readers. The Kandle easily slips over the top of a Kindle. It features three small bright LED (lifetime) lights and an extended, adjustable & flexible neck. There are two different settings for the LED - soft light and ultra bright. It comes with 2 CR2032 batteries, a USB charging cable and a storage bag.

I guess you can say that fairy tales have made a comeback in recent years with several blockbusters and television series, which many are produced by the Walt Disney Company, including ABC's Once Upon A Time. With the series about to start it's fifth season at the end of next month, Kingswell Teen is releasing a companion novel, titled Once Upon A Time: Red's Untold Tale.

Red's Untold Tale centers on Red Riding Hood (the character is played by Meghan Ory in the series), but way before she was known as Ruby in Storybrooke. Here, Red is sixteen-year-old trying to live a normal life with Granny in the small village. She spends her days delivering the baked goods her grandmother maed to the villagers. What makes her different than other girls in the village is that she is also a werewolf, meaning when wolftime nears, they must board up the house, so Red won't venture out and harm an innocent. Plus, it helps keep the other wolves away from Red.

The story flashes back to when Red was thirteen-years-old when she was first entering her werewolf stage and when she learned of how her parents really died. Then it flashes back three years, where the she is dealing her romantic feelings for the blacksmith's son, Peter. Granny's baking business is booming, so Red searches the village for more milk to use for baking, but it isn't an easy task as a wolf has killed a few of the dairy cows.

   If I mentioned the title that I'm reading in a post, then, yes, I sometimes feel like I need to write a review on it.

I've been reading up a storm lately as I've been trying my best to get caught up on reading books that have been piled up on my desk for several months; though somehow I've sneaked in enough time to read the newer titles for a few blog tours, including Irish Meadows by Susan Anne Mason.

Set in the early 1900s in Long Island, New York, Irish Meadows centers on Brianna and Colleen O'Leary, two sisters whom are both being pressured by their immigrant father, James, to marry into a rich family, so there would be a prosperous future for their horse farm.

Both sisters have their opinions of what they should do with their lives. Brianna dreams of attending college one day and has no plans on marrying. Colleen doesn't mind getting married as long as she marries for the right reasons and not just for the fact that her father wants to a rich son-in-law.

However, James O'Leary plans for his daughters become in jeopardy when a former stable hand, Gilbert Whelan, returns from business school and takes an interest in Brianna. Then things get worse when Colleen falls for Ryan Montgomery, a young man who is starting his seminary training.

Arriving on Blu-ray and DVD this week is Walt Disney Animation Studios Short Films Collection, featuring 12 celebrated Disney Shorts, including Frozen Fever!

The only bonus feature is @DisneyAnimaton - An inside look at the process of developing and producing a short. Hosted by actor - T.J. Miller (voice of "Fred" in Big Hero 6).

Frozen Fever! is the sequel to 2013's mega-hit Frozen with the returning voice-cast of  Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, and Josh Gad. The short centers on Elsa planning a big surprise party for her sister Anna, but there is a slight problem - Elsa is catching a cold. It features a new cute song - Making Today a Perfect Day.


Last year's Feast centers on Winston, a  Boston Terrier puppy that enjoys life with his bachelor owner James. He especially likes that he gets to eat all the junk food that he wants to that is until James gets a girlfriend and she forever changes their diets. It won the Annie Award for Best Animated Short Subject at the 42nd Annie Awards and an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film at the 87th Academy Awards.


Mickey Mouse returned to the big screen in the 2013's Get A Horse! The short blends black-and-white hand-drawn animation and color CGI animation along with archival recordings of Walt Disney as the voice of Mickey Mouse. It starts out as a short from the 1920s and eventually Mickey pops out of the screen in 3D.

I'm continuing my quest to cleanup my desk, which means reviewing the pile of books that have been collecting dust for several months.  One of these books is titled by The Patmos Deception by Davis Bunn. Typically, I don't read adventure-type books, but I had heard great things about the author and I wanted to try one of his books.

The Patmos Deception centers on a young woman, Carey Mathers, whom travels to Greece to start a new job as well as a new life. She had studied forensic archeology and she is now using her knowledge to work at the Athens Institute for Antiquities.

Out of nowhere an old friend, Nick Hennessy, a Texas journalist, asks for her help in his investigation behind the disappearance of an invaluable Grecian antiquities, which leads them both to team up with Dmitri Rubinos. After unraveling all the clues, they find that the truth behind the mystery lies near the island of Patmos.

While Power Rangers fans, young and old, are patiently waiting for new batches of the current Dino Charge season to air on Nickelodeon, they'll just have to settle for this month's DVD release of Power Rangers Super Megaforce: The Legendary Battle, which is the combination of the last two episodes (The Wrath & Legendary Battle) of the Megaforce series. Included on the single-disc is the bonus featurette - Power Rangers: A Legacy.

Power Rangers Megaforce debuted in early 2013 and centered on five teens - Troy (played by Andrew Gray), Noah (played by John Mark Loudermilk), Emma (played by Christina Masterson), Gia (played by Ciara Hanna) and Jake (played by Azim Rizk), being summoned by the supernatural guardian Gose, so the can protect Earth from an alien invasion by becoming the Megaforce Rangers. The second season added "Super" in the title and a sixth ranger - Orion (played by Cameron Jebo), a young man that traveled from another planet to help stop the alien armada from destroying Earth.

After defeating Prince Vekar and his brother Vrak, the Ranger thought the battle was finally over, but shortly after Orion leaves Earth, Emperor Mavro attacks Earth with a bigger armada. He sends down Levira to destroy the Rangers once in for all. Emperor Mavro orders his fleet to destroy Angel Grove, which results in the Rangers' zords being destroyed.

The Red Ranger ("Troy," left) stars in Lionsgate Home Entertainment's POWER RANGERS MEGAFORCE: THE LEGENDARY BATTLE.

The only the way to defeat Emperor Marvro's army is for the Megaforce Rangers to teamup with the Legendary Rangers (played by Sean Cw Johnson, Alison MacInnis, Danny Slavin, Selwyn Ward, Patricia Ja Lee, Jason David Frank, Jason Faunt, Reggie Rolle, Melody Perkins, Hector David Jr. and Brittany Anne Pirtle) for one final battle of good vs. evil.

My Answer: 

   When I was teenager I would have a paperback (Stephen King, John Saul, etc.) in my back pocket, that way if I get bored during class or lunch, I can just pull out my book and read. As an adult, I don't carry a book with me anymore, not unless I'm on a trip or something, but I hardly travel anymore.

I'm rounding out my summer by finally writing reviews for a few books that have been collecting dust on my desk for quite sometime. Yes, it's quite odd for me to delay reading an Amish fiction novel, but that's exactly what happened with The River by Beverly Lewis, which was published last September.

The River centers on two former Amish sisters, Tilly and Ruth, whom are returning to Lancaster County for their parent's wedding anniversary. Tilly is now married with children and has unresolved issues about going back home. At first both of them were going to decline the invite, but after hearing about their father's health issues, they decide to attend.

Once they arrive back in Lancaster County, the sisters must finally deal with their pasts. For Tilly, she must find a way to get over the death of their other sister that died by the river when they were young. Lastly, Ruth must deal with her unresolved feelings for an old flame.

Yep, here I am again writing another review for a whole bean coffee brand! I guess you can say that I'm a coffee addict, but I can't help myself from trying out different coffees.

I received the Coffee Colombian Roast Crazy Passion about a month about a month ago to rest out and review. It's made by CoffeeCrazy, the same people that makes the SalsaCrazy DVDs.

A lot of coffee beans and grounds tend to have unwanted chemicals in them, so it's great that this brand is organic! The 12 oz. bag is currently available on Amazon for $14.95.

As a kid, I looked forward to every October as AMC has their horror film marathons for Halloween, but this was back when the channel didn't have commercials and when they actually played classic films. For us diehard horror fans, we have to turn DVDs & Blu-rays to find the older flicks.

Recently released on DVD from Mill Creek Entertainment is the Classic Horror: 4 Movie Collection, Featuring four nearly forgotten films - Five (1951), The Mad Magician (1954), The Man Who Turned To Stone (1957) and The Terror Of The Tongs (1961). There are no extras or special features on the two-disc set.

Far by the best on this two-disc set is the post-apocalyptic film called Five. Set directly after an atomic bomb has went off, the film tells the story of four men ( William Phipps, James Anderson, Charles Lampkin and Earl Lee) and a pregnant woman (played by Susan Douglas Rubes) trying to survive. While it was critically panned upon it's original release, over the years it has received praise for it's dark atmosphere.


Strange things are happening in a women prison in The Man Who Turned To Stone. After several suspicious inmate suicides, social worker Carol Adams (played by Charlotte Austin) seeks the help of psychiatrist Dr. Jess Rogers (played by William Hudson) to help unravel the mystery and discover the real murderers.


In a somewhat-remake of The Stranglers of Bombay, the 1961 Hammer Film "The Terror Of The Thongs" centers on Captain Jackson Sale (played by Geoffrey Toone) seeking revenge against the mysterious secret Red Dragon Tong crime family, whom murdered his daughter. This rarely-seen film is considered to be politically incorrect due to the fact that several Caucasian actors portrayed Asian characters, including actor Christopher Lee.

I've been a music lover since I was a young kid, so over the years I've been through dozens of different style of head phones. I've used them to listen to music on my walkmans (remember those?), portable CD players, MP3 players, stereos and now on my laptop.

Headphones aren't exactly cheap anymore with some as high as $200 or more, which don't last any longer than a $10 pair. I've already been through two pairs this year. A pair of stereo headphones quit after a few months of use and I accidentally vacuumed over of earbuds.

That being said, I was excited when I was picked to review the Snug Plug n Play Headphones, which are technically attended for kids, but are suitable for just about any age. My Answer: 

   I try to post Halloween theme reviews/posts for the entire month of October. I find it hard to post book reviews with a Christmas theme as most of them I sign up to review are released prior to December.

In the creation of a good sign or banner, communication is key. You need to, somehow, get across messages that can sometimes be highly complex within only a fleeting glance from someone on the street. This, using only one or two images, and a short phrase. If that. Naturally, this leaves very little room for error. Under such conditions, it is no wonder that some people wind up with signs and banners containing hilariously inappropriate content.

Such occurrences are nearly always accidental, arising in such situations where a need to communicate quickly does not always work according to plan. Other times the messages displayed on such signs and banners may be entirely innocent, but has been given a much more suspect interpretation by those possessed of dirty minds. Then there are cases when the message was intended to be seen that way completely, usually as some sort of joke or cheeky double-entendre for adults.

Whatever the reason behind them, there have been some truly hilarious signs that have cropped up over the past fifteen years or so. Here, we’ll show you some of the best signs and let you decide for yourselves whether you’d want to offer your custom at the establishments in question.


If you’ve ever walked down a main city street, you’ve more than likely walked past half a dozen bars, cafes and restaurants in your time. Because of the ever-changing nature of these establishment’s menus – new specials and discounts are added on a weekly or even daily basis – this necessitates the use of an easily erasable chalk A-frame sign. This, as you can imagine, can lead to some creativity with the sorts of messages that owners may want to leave for prospective companies to see.

1. Be Careful What You Wish For?

Some store owners like to use chalk signs to leave thoughtful, insightful messages for their customers on their signs and banners. The idea is that looking cerebral and profound may attract the more philosophical types, or make passers-by intrigued enough that their curiosity is piqued. We can only guess as to how effective it was.

You do not need to be very fancy with the items on the menu to attract a large crowd. Sometimes, if used correctly, simplicity can be the finest sauce to any meal. If you know your target demographic, and know what your business can provide, you can find it very easy indeed to attract customers into your business.

I'm always a sucker for any Amish-themed book, so naturally I was interested in reading Murder Freshly Baked by Vannetta Chapman, which is book three in the Amish Village Mystery series. You might recall me reviewing the first book Murder Simply Brewed awhile back, which I enjoyed reading, but for some reason I missed out on reading book two, Murder Tightly Knit. Of course, this didn't stop from reading third installment.

Set in the Amish Artisan Village of Middleury, Indiana, Murder Freshly Baked centers on Amber Bowman, the manager of the shopping village. It seems someone has been sending startling poetic notes about the bakery, warning customers that the pies are poisoned!

While the police are on the case, Amber decides to start her own investigation and once again teams up with Hannah Troyer, the Amish woman whom runs the coffee shop. After Ryan Duval is murdered, Amber suspects that an employee that works for Amber might be the killer.

Writers must create copy in varying styles even if they only work in one industry or genre. For example, an author not only has to write the fictional content for her book, but she may also need to create promotional materials, have her own author blog, and write to connect with fans.

If you find everything you write sounds boring and the same, you may be in a writing rut. Use these three tips to get out fast.

Bland copy is boring copy. Add in funny phrasings or personal stories to make things more interesting. Most writing is meant to entertain. Be flexible and have fun with your writing. Even a subject as dry as car repair can be a little more interesting if you tell the story of how you accidentally wired the car to honk every time the windshield wipers were turned on. However, unless you are writing pure fiction, don’t make the stories up. Be the person you really are. This is why all my stories revolve around books and science journals that I read online.

Write the Opposite

I like to refresh my writing palate by writing something completely different. If I had any musical talent, I might take this even further by trying to write a song instead of a different kind of writing, but things are what they are.

If you are writing a non-fiction piece, write something fiction just for fun. If you are writing fiction, try writing a personal essay. Or, if you have the talent, try creating something completely different, like art or a song. Writing is an art, too, and you may be surprised how much your writing changes and evolves for the better after you do something completely different.

Write Something Just for Fun

Everyone who is an aspiring/career writer probably got into it because they loved it. I found myself in a freelance writing career because I originally wanted to write books. However, deadlines and career responsibilities pulls the fun out of it sometimes.

Mix things up by writing something just for fun. You may never use that piece anywhere, but no-pressure writing can be an amazing thing. This is something I’m going to try myself soon, as I got completely burned out by fiction writing when I participated in NaNoWriMo in 2013.

Review:

The final installment in the Dollanganger film series, Seeds of Yesterday, is now available to own on DVD. Directed by Shawn Ku, the film stars Rachael Carpani, James Maslow and Jason Lewis. There are no special features or extras on the single disc. However, it does come a with digital copy.

Based on the fourth installment of the Dollanganger Saga book series by the late Gothic author V.C. Andrews, Seeds Of Yesterday picks up thirteen years after the events of If There Be Thorns. Bart (played by James Maslow) has rebuilt the old Foxworth mansion. He's invited his parents, Chris and Cathy (played by Jason Lewis and Rachael Carpani), his brother, Jory (played by Anthony Konechny), sister-in-law, Melodie (played by Leah Gibson) and his adopted-sister Cindy (played by Sammi Hanratty) to stay at the mansion for his 25th birthday celebration, in which Jory and Melodie were to perform a ballet for the party. Well, that is until it is revealed that Melodie is pregnant, forcing Bart to let Cindy, whom he has always hated, to take her place. Unfortunately, an accident occurs that paralyzes Jory.

While Bart tries to act like nothing is wrong, he actually hates his family due to his parents dark secret (spoiler: Chris and Cathy are siblings). After he learns that his inheritance from his late grandmother will be delayed until his 35th birthday, he takes it out on his family. Bart begins a passionate affair with Melodie, who is extremely unstable. Next, he interferes in Cindy's love life, which causes another strain in their relationship, though he actually has romantic feelings for her.
