Yes, there have been dozen of mail-order-bride romance novels written over the last few years and for some reason these types of books appeal to me, so here I am writing the review for A Bride At Last.

The book centers on Silas Jonesey, a former orphan who is trying his best to start a life that he can call his own. Now a farmer, he was looking forward to starting a family with his mail-order-bride, but she leaves him after only seven months. For the next ten years, he has shut his heart off and has no plans of ever falling in love again. Out-of-nowhere, he receives a message from his ex about him possibly being the father of her son.

After her mail-order-bride experience went wrong, Kate Dawson has become a schoolteacher. After the mother of one of her student's (Anthony) dies, Kate decides to take the boy in that is until two men (Silas Jonesey and Richard Fitzgerald) arrive in town, both claiming to be the boy's birth father.

While Silas awaits to prove his paternity in court, Silas sees how much Kate loves Anthony, so he asks her to help him with the boy. Of course this is a romance novel, so sparks quickly erupts between Silas and Kate.

You might recall me reviewing The Whispers On The Moors Trilogy on here awhile back by Sarah E. Ladd. Well, the author has released her newest work - The Curiosity Keeper, the first book in A Treasures of Surrey series.


Set in London England in 1812, The Curiosity Keeper centers on Camille Iverness, a young woman who has helped her father run the Iverness Curiosity Shop ever since her mother abandoned them. This isn't your typical shop as it carries unusual items. Her father has gotten himself into some trouble by cheating a few of his loyal customers.

Jonathan Gilchrist only wanted to have a simple life working as a village apothecary, but that all changed when his brother died and left him to the Kettering Hall. Most people would be thrilled to inherit an estate, but his late father's actions have left him a tough situation, which leads him to seek out the sale of a priceless ruby called the Bevoy. 

After Sarah is injured when an intruder breaks into the store, she soon crosses path with Jonathan, forever changing her life and his as well.

Directed by George Tillman, Jr., the film stars Britt Robertson (Tomorrowland), Scott Eastwood, Jack Huston, Oona Chaplin and Alan Alda. Do you remember a time when you could buy several books for $1.00 when joining a book club? Well, I do! It was a great way to be introduced to many exciting new authors. I recall buying a huge book by Laurell K. Hamilton that had two or three titles in one. They were the first few entries in the Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series. At the time, I was a huge of fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, so anything with vampires in it caught my attention. To find out, the author lives in my home state of Missouri, so I quickly became a fan of her works.

Dead Ice is the 24th installment (Yes, I said wrote that correctly! The 24th!) and once again centers on U.S. Marshall Anita Blake, a vampire executioner that has the ability to raise the dead. Despite her job, she is now engaged to the master vampire Jean-Claude.

The FBI recruits Anita to help them with a major zombie problem as it seem someone is making zombie porn! While this isn't the creepiest thing that Anita has seen before, something really bothers her about this case - the female zombies still have their souls attached.

I'm sure many people probably think the only way to gain muscle mass is to take illegal steroids that will due to damage to your body, but in reality there are healthier ways to get into shape.

I'm going to try and catch up on book reviews over the next few weeks starting with this review of Desperate Measures by Sandra Orchard, which I should have written and posted last month. I have a bad habit of judging a book by its cover, which is what occurred when I signed up to review this book. I liked the cover and decided to give it a try without knowing it was book three in the Port Aster Secrets series.

Desperate Measures centers on a herbal research scientist Kate Adams, whom has finally found the so-called "miracle plant" amendoso from Columbia that has haunted her family for years. Her hope is that the unraveling of the mystery will help her learn the truth behind her father's disappearance.

Unable to trust anyone, including her co-workers, she turns once again to Detective Tom Parker for help, whom is already on the case of a missing teen that coincidentally is connected to the "miracle plant." Kate must risk her life and her relationship with Tom to find out the truth once and for all.
