Fitness & Coffee Sundays: Getting Ready for Halloween & the NaNoWriMO 2016!

It's been awhile since I posted a "Fitness & Coffee" that wasn't a review of some sorta product, so I thought I would take this time to share what I've been up as of lately. For starters, I have had a chest cold for nearly two weeks, and I now have a bit of the flu bug as well. Add on top a bit of weight gain from a lack of exercise for the past month, I guess you can say I'm not currently at my best.

This year's Halloween event hasn't been easy on me. There have been several posts I have skipped or just didn't feel like writing. None of these reviews/posts had to be published on specific dates, so I'm not too worried about it. Hopefully, I'll feel like writing one or two those posts later today.

Speaking of Halloween, Oct. 31st is one week tomorrow. Each and every year, I put together 120+ treat bags full of candy for the trick-or-treaters and I decorate the yard with creepy tombstones and other stuff. As I am writing this, I have about 60 treat bags put together. I won't put up the decorations until next weekend or on Halloween Day; all depending on how I feel. Plus, I normally carve a Jack-O-Lantern and roast the pumpkin seeds. I do have a pumpkin, but whether I actually carve it is another story.

I have several books I need to read and review, including The Dead Boyfriend (my book marker is in place) and The Mirror Sisters by V.C. Andrews. Then I need to read High Heat that I had checked out at the library.

Fitness & Coffee Sundays: How To Improve Your Exercise Room's Floor

Part of my small bedroom is the reserved for exercising or what I call my "workout room." I used to have carpet in the room, but after some rain water go into the house, I had to yank out the carpet and put in vinyl flooring.

Since then, I have been using a big ugly rug for my workout area, which consists of an exercise bike, dumbbells, and enough room for pushups, kickboxing and other exercises. The rug has been more of a nuisance than anything else. It's been hard to keep clean and it likes to move on me when I'm exercising.

That being said, I was excited when I received a  pack of Norsk Solid Color Diamond Plate Foam Tiles, which arrived on my doorsteps in a huge Amazon box last Monday afternoon. The tiles come in a 6 pack and retails for $25.99 on Amazon. It's available in two different colors - black and gray. The pack that was sent to me is gray.

The pack comes with 12 straight-edge trim pieces. Each tile measures 24" x 24" x .47" (or 24 square feet) and are made from high-quality recycled materials (non toxic - lead free/latex free).

The foam tiles are interlocking, similar to a puzzle, and are reversible. The tiles are water resistant, which is great for a basement floor or for a workout room.

The tiles are easy to clean. All you need is a water, soap, and a washcloth. You can use a broom to sweep the dust off it or you can use a vacuum cleaner on it (don't use a power brush.)

Fitness & Coffee Sundays: NoChill: Nootropic Drink Mix

Have you ever had a nootropic drink?

A nootropic drink helps to enhance your memory, concentration, learning abilities and focus.

Nootropics can be found in lemon balm, grape seed extract, St. John's wort, caffeine and green tea. These drinks normally contain theanine, B group vitamins, iodine, magnesium and taurine.

Unlike energy drinks that are full of sugar, nootropic drinks are low in calories and are normally sugar free. It's meant to give you a brain boost not an energy boost.

Fitness & Coffee Sundays: VALI Core Sliders

Yes, it's been awhile since I posted a “Fitness & Coffee Sunday” post. My fitness plans for this year haven't gone as planned as I've fallen off of my workout routines and I've gained a few unwanted pounds. Actually, I've been ignoring the scales in fear of finding out the exact number that I actually way.

Nevertheless, it's the start of a brand-new week, and there's no time like the present to jump back into exercising. I plan on starting a new workout routine later tonight, so wish me luck.

Several weeks ago, I received a pair of VALI Core Sliders to test out and review. The sliders retail for $19.99, but they are currently priced on Amazon for $13.99.

What exactly are core sliders?

A core slider is a disc made out of either plastic or a fabric. You can either place the discs under your hands and/or feet during floor exercises. They are meant to help you perform the exercises correctly, and to help stretch your arms/legs more than ever before.

What type of exercises can you perform while using sliders?

Well, you can preform:

Mountain Climbers

Planks

Pikes

Knee Tucks

Reverse Tucks

Squats

Lunges

Pushups

Etc.

Fitness & Coffee Sundays: TestRX Review

It's no secret that I like to review supplements on here, especially those that will appeal to men. I started reviewing these types of supplements because I kept seeing way too many female bloggers and Amazon reviewers posting reviews on testosterone boosters, which are made for men.

For this post, I'm reviewing the TestRX male enhancement formula, which can be purchased for $18.95 on Amazon.com.

One bottle contains 90 capsules (45 servings). The main ingredients includes Tongkat Ali (400mg), Maca (50mg), L-Arginine (250mg) and a Ginseng Blend (125mg). It also has a Proprietary Formula (745mg), which contains a variety of different herbs, such as Nettle and Oyster Extract.

According to the label, the supplement is supposed to give you a boost of strength, help build muscle and increases energy. Besides from exercising benefits, it will increase your libido and your overall sexual health.

Fitness & Coffee Sundays: "Achieve Pure Performance" with ETB Fit!

Tonight will be last workout in the Master's Hammer & Chisel 8-week program, which features a mixture of light weightlifting and cardio. It had been years since I had lifted weights regularly, so it took my body a little while to adjust.

During these 8 weeks, I made sure to drink at least one protein shake per day; typically mixed with skim milk. There are many different brands of pre & post workout protein mixes, so finding the best one to suit your needs can be challenging.

Earlier this month, I received a sample box full of Grizzly Protein samples from ETB (Eat The Bear) Fit, featuring three different flavors - Chocolate, Vanilla and Chocolate Peanut Butter. Each Non-GMO Whey Protein Isolate flavor is free of banned substances, gluten and lactose.

The Grizzly Protein Vanilla contains zero sugars, zero fat, 25g protein and 100 total calories. Vanilla isn't my favorite flavor for a protein shake as I've tried several ones that have tasted bland. To my surprise, this vanilla protein mix actually tastes pretty good.

Fitness & Coffee Sundays: Pure Morninga Oleifera Review

Well, I've almost made it through my first week of The Master's Hammer and Chisel workout program, with tonight's workout being day 7. I hadn't watched any of the DVDs prior to starting the program, so I wasn't aware of what routines were in each one; which was the reason why I was surprised to find so many leg exercises in them. I don't have the best knees, so I've been extra careful not to injure myself. Let's just say that my body is extra sore from all the workouts.

I've mentioned many times on here about the importance of taking vitamins and supplements as they help your body recover from intense workouts and aid in your overall weight loss goals.

For little over a week, I've been trying out the Pure Morninga Oleifera from #FRESHHEALTHCARE (retails for $64.95, but can be purchased on Amazon for $35.95).

What is Moringa Oleifera?

Well, Moringa Oleifera is a small plant that can be found in North India, where the leaves are either eaten or used in herbal medicines. One cup of fresh chopped leaves contains protein, Vitamin B6, Vitamin C, Iron, Riboflavin (B2), Vitamin A (from beta-carotene) and Magnesium. The leaves are also a great source of antioxidants.

The leaves in the Pure Moringa Oleifera have been freeze dried crushed (pulverized) and contain 1200mg per two vegetable capsules (there are 180 capsules in the bottle that was sent to me). It's mean to be used as a multivitamin that will help promote weight loss, increase your immunity and give you an energy boost.

Fitness & Coffee Sundays: Getting Ready for The Master's Hammer & Chisel

Instead of kicking off a brand new workout routine on January 1st, I'm starring it tomorrow (Jan. 4th), which is the beginning of the first full week of 2016. The workout program that I'll be starting is The Master's Hammer and Chisel (Beachbody) that will last for 8 weeks; with each workout running between 20 to 40 minutes.

I purchased the basic package, which comes with 6 DVDs, featuring 13 different workouts (the 10-minute AB Hammer is featured on each DVD) and two bonus workouts, 21 Day Fit Extreme: Dirty 30 Extreme and Body Best: Best Total Body. Also, there is a bonus disc with a a 17-minute workout called The Master's Cardio. Additionally, there is 7 color-coded containers and a protein shaker.

You can't just jump into a program like this without some simple preparations.

Here are three tips:

Figure out your meal plans and go to the grocery store.

A healthy diet is one of the important factors into getting into shape, which was something I was lacking last year. I've already cut out the energy drinks (yes, they're horrible for your body) and replaced it my bad habit with celery (my favorite vegetable).

Make sure you have the right equipment.

The Master's Hammer and Chisel requires light to heavy dumbbells, so make sure you have several different sizes (or the adjustable kind), so you can switch to different weights during the workouts. There are some floor workouts, so if your floor isn't carpeted or if you don't have a thick rug, I would recommend getting a yoga/exercise mat.

Drink Water!

Yep, you'll need plenty of water handy while exercising. I recommend getting a 16 to 20 ounce water bottle.

Update: While my original post was written on Sunday morning, I had forgotten to publish it until today.

Fitness & Coffee Sundays: RIMSports Fitness Gloves Review

I do hope everyone didn't stuff themselves with too many sweets over the holidays! While I did let myself have a few pieces of fudge, I kept my sugar intake to a minimum, and I was able to drop a few pound during the last two weeks thanks to exercise and a dietary supplement that I've been taking.

My original intention was to kick off a new weekly post called "Fitness & Coffee Sundays" on January 3, but I decided to go ahead and write my first post today. What will my new posts be about? Well, I'll have a small rambling about my own exercise routines and, then, I'll feature a review or spotlight on a fitness related product.
