Description
Illumination, the studio that brought you Sing, The Secret Life of Pets and the Despicable Me franchise, continues the adventures of Gru and his family in Despicable Me 3. After he is fired from the Anti-Villain League for failing to take down Balthazar Bratt (Trey Parker, “South Park,” Team America: World Police), the latest evil mastermind to threaten humanity, Gru finds himself in the midst of a major identity crisis. But when a mysterious stranger shows up to inform Gru that he has a long-lost twin brother — a brother who desperately wishes to follow in his twin’s despicable footsteps — the former super-villain rediscovers just how good it feels to be bad.

Academy Award® nominee Steve Carell (Foxcatcher) reprises his hilarious role as reformed criminal mastermind Gru, as well as his newly discovered twin, Dru. The all-star voice cast also features Kristen Wiig (Bridesmaids, Despicable Me 2), Miranda Cosgrove (Despicable Me 1 & 2, School of Rock), Steve Coogan (The Secret Life of Pets, Philomena), Jenny Slate (Zootopia, The Secret Life of Pets), Dana Gaier (Despicable Me 1 & 2) and legendary singer and actress Julie Andrews (The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins).

My Thoughts
Animated franchises tend to die out by the third movie, but that isn't the case for the Despicable Me film series, as the third film (fourth if you count the Minions movie) was a box-office hit this year; taking in over one billion dollars and becoming the 3rd biggest movie of 2017 (so far, anyway).

Despicable 3 begins with Gru and wife Lucy being fired from the Anti-Villain League (AVL) after he couldn't capture the villain Balthazar Bratt. The Minions hope Gru will return to his villainy ways, but after he refuses to do so, most of the Minions pack their bags and leave!

Out of the blue, Gru receives word that he has a twin brother named Dru, who wants him to travel to  Freedonia to meet him. With nothing else to do, Gru, Lucy, their children, Margo, Edith, and Agnes, and the two remaining Minions (or was it three?) travel to Freedonia to visit Dru, who looks just like Gru, except for the little fact that he has hair. Gru learns that his father was a famous villain and Dru wants to follow in his footsteps, but there's one catch - Gru has to teach him how to be a villain.

The Minions are separated from Gru and his family for most of the film, and they have their own side-adventures. They end up being arrested for trespassing on the "Sing" talent contest show and are sent to prison, where they eventually come up with an escape plan.

Agnes also has her own side-story that involves her searching for a "real" unicorn!

The picture and sound quality are topnotch on the Blu-ray. There are plenty of special features to keep you entertained. There's a new mini-movie called The Secret Life of Kyle, which centers on the family dog trying to romance the poodle across the street.

Overall, Despicable 3 is fast-paced, heartwarming third entry in the series. While it's not quite as good as the previous films, I thought the film was pretty good with several funny moments from the Minions. The Blu-ray (or 4K Ultra Blu-ray or DVD) would make a great stocking stuffer for Christmas!
