Do you remember not wanting to go asleep when you were little? I recall my mother forcing me to go to bed when I was a kid. I wasn't even tired, but I was forced to sleep anyway. Of course I was just a kid and I didn't understand why it is was important to get a good night's sleep.

Now available to purchase in bookstores from Zonderkidz is the children's picture book, titled Time For Bed, Sleepyhead: The Falling Asleep Book written by Daniel G. Amen, M.D. and illustrated by Gail Yerrill.

The premise of the story centers on Mother Bear tucking in her young son, Little Bear, as she explains to him why it is important to get a good night's sleep. To help him fall asleep, Mother Bear tells him to imagine that he is going on a trip to the beach with his animal friends (Eli, the young anteater; Chloe, the kitty; Liam, the llama; Aslan, the German Shepherd puppy; Louie, the lion cub; Emmy, the emu; and Shakespeare, the seal pup). They play, laugh, and have a great time at the beach. On the way back home, all the animals become tired. By the time they do get home, they can barely keep their eyes open while they brush their teeth. In the end, the animals snuggle up together and fall asleep.

Final Thoughts: Let me start out with the illustrations; all the pictures are wonderfully drawn with lots of colors that will appeal to younger readers. The story is very simple and is written really well. Throughout the book the young animals are having fun at the beach; by the time they get home, they're all tuckered out and fall asleep. Basically, the story is meant to help kids relax, so they can fall right asleep.

Overall, Time For Bed, Sleepyhead: The Falling Asleep Book is an adorable picture book for kids; thought I'm not for sure if the story will actually make any kids fall asleep; nevertheless, it should make a good read at bedtime.
