Review:

With October as well as all the posts for the Halloween Madness event finally over, it's time for me to posts a slew of book reviews, which I'm hoping to get caught up on everything before Thanksgiving comes around later this month.

Last month, I received the third book in the Chicory Inn series, titled Another Way Home by author Deborah Raney. Once again the series centers on Grant and Audrey Whitman, a couple that is trying to run their own bed & breakfast, but their adult children's problems keep interfering with their lives.

Their middle daughter, Danae, and her husband, Dallas, have been trying to start a family for years, but God hasn't blessed them with a child yet. While Danae is considering adoption, Dallas doesn't even want to discuss the topic. Her dream is to fill her days raising their children, but since that's not on the table anymore, she volunteers at a shelter for for abused women that just opened in town. As she gets to know the women there, she starts to wonder if God is nudging her life in a different direction.

I don't recall reading the first book in there series, Home to Chicory Lane, but I did read the sequel, Two Roads Home, during the summer. While this book could be read as a stand-alone story, I do recommend reading the first two books as the plot centers around recurring characters. Typically, a Christian fiction is set around two characters that have never met each other and when they do, they fall in love. Here the main characters are already married, but their marriage and faith is being tested by the fact that they are having problems starting a family. Overall, Another Way Home is a fast-paced novel that I read in one sitting. The author did a marvelous job crafting a wonderful plot with likeable characters.

About the Author:

Deborah Raney's books have won numerous awards, including the RITA, National Readers Choice Award, HOLT Medallion, and the Carol Award, and have twice been Christy Award finalists. She and her husband, Ken, recently traded small-town life in Kansas-the setting of many of Deborah's novels---for life in the (relatively) big city of Wichita, where they enjoy gardening, antiquing, movies, and traveling to visit four children and a growing brood of grandchildren who all live much too far away.
