Review:

Wow! It seems like I just read the first book in the Amish Brides of Pinecraft series only a few weeks ago and here I am writing the review for the second installment, The Proposal at Siesta Key, which I read late last night.

Once again, the story is set in the Pinecraft, Florida and centers on Penny Troyer, a young Amish woman whom has been sheltered by her parents ever since they moved from Ohio to Florida after her sister was assaulted. One day she decides to venture away from her home to join a missionary group at the Pinecraft Park. The Knoxx Family, a traveling Mennonite evangelical family, are scheduled to speak at the event and this is where she meets Michael Knoxx for the first time.

While speaking at missionary groups and other events is fulfilling, life on the road is taking a toll on Michael. His leg has never recovered from the accident that has inspired him to help others and some much needed rest is required, especially after he has some unplanned surgery.

Seeing the Knoxx Family at the Pinecraft Park was just a start of Penny venturing out into the world as she gets a job at the Orange Blossom Inn. Fate must be on her side as one of the guests is Michael Knoxx, whom is recuperating. Of course this is a romance novel, so you can probably guess that there is an instant connection between Penny and Michael.

I've been a fan of Shelly Shepard Gray for several years now and once again her writing skills shine in The Proposal at Siesta Key. Over the years, I have read many Amish and Mennonite romance novels and they do get a bit predictable, but Shelley magically avoids all the typically cliches to give us readers a wonderful romantic novel. The main characters, Penny and Michael, are written with enough depth that I never got bored with them, like I do a some recent novels. Overall, The Proposal at Siesta Key is a fast-paced romance that I couldn't put down until I read the entire novel.
