Review:

Late one night in the summer of 2012, I couldn't sleep, so I grabbed a book from my TBR pile, which happened to be Inescapable by Nancy Mehl. I was instantly hooked into the intriguing plot, reading nearly 3/4 of the novel before finally falling asleep. Naturally, I was more than excited when I saw Unforeseeable was up for review and I eagerly signed up to review it. Honestly, I thought this was the second book in the Road to Kingdom series, but it is actually the third book. I ended up buying the real second installment, Unbreakable, as I wanted to read it before jumping into the third and final novel.

Set in Kingdom, Kansas, Callie Hoffman is starting to settle down in the small community. She is planning on wedding Levi Housler, who happens to the new pastor of the Kingdom Mennonite Church. She spends her days working at the town cafe side-by-side with her future sister-in-law, Lizzie Housler.

I guess you can say life is good in Kingdom that is until a body is found just outside of town, a victim of a serial killer. The newly instated county sheriff questions the townsfolk and plans on catching the killer, but Callie quickly begins her own private investigation. Her fiancé Levi has been acting odd since the murder victim was discovered and she wants to know who is behind the murder, even if she has to put her own life in jeopardy.

There are many fictional books about the Mennonites, mostly those in the romance genre, but Nancy Mehl focuses her plots on suspenseful murder mysteries. I live in the mid-west, so I always enjoy novels that are set around my location, which happens to be a neighboring state in Unforeseeable. Though this is a Christian novel, there are plenty of scenes in which I felt fear and anxiety, thanks to the author's well-crafted plot. Unlike some series which has a completely different set of characters in each installment, Unforeseeable returns to the characters from the previous novels. Overall, I thought Unforeseeable was a well-written, fast page-turner. Sadly, it is the last book in the Road to Kingdom series, but I do hope the author will revisit the characters in the near future, maybe in a novella.
