Review:

Available today on Blu-ray and DVD is Joseph Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut Don Jon, costarring Scarlett Johansson, Julianne Moore, Brie Larson and Tony Danza. Special features include: Making of Don Jon, Don Jon's Origin, Joe's Hats!, Objectified, Themes and Variations and HitRECord Shorts.

Besides from writing the screenplay and directing the movie, Joseph Gordon-Levitt always stars as Jon "Don Jon" Martello, Jr., a womanizer who is addicted to internet pornography. He regular views pornography throughout the day on either his laptop or cell phone. At night he hangs out with friends at a night club, where he picks up random women for one night stands.

Jon's life changes when he sees the beautiful Barbara Sugarman (played by Scarlett Johansson) at a nightclub, which he attempts to work his charms on her, it backfires, she leaves and he ends up picking up a different woman.

There is something about Barbara that is driving him crazy, so after a little investigating, he finds out who she is and contacts her. They instantly hit it off. What turns out to be a few dates results in a relationship. Jon even introduces Barbara to his parents.

Jon puts up with Barbara's obsession with romantic movies. Their relationship seems to be going great, but once she learns of his online habits, Jon's idea of perfect bliss is ruined.

At first glance Don Jon looks like a romantic-comedy, but it is more of a drama with a little bits of humor here and there. The movie is rated R and with the internet pornography plot there is several raunchy scenes that may bother or even offend some viewers. Gordon-Levitt, Johansson, Moore and Tony Danza give great performances, but I thought actress Brie Larson's acting talents were wasted. Most of the time she is either sitting, looking at her cell or rolling her eyes. Though I do think Gordon-Levitt did an interesting job with the script, for me the movie was a little dull in places. Overall, Don Jon is a different kind of romantic comedy than what you would normally expect; entertaining for the most part.
