If you decide to talk to your doctor and take a testosterone levels test and you discover that you or your loved one has low T don't worry there are lost of options for you to help increase testosterone options like taking zinc, vitamin D, or adaptogens that release testostereone bound in globulin proteins (often referred to as a testosterone booster). You can lose weight or decrease stress, or reduce your cortisol levels. There are a host of things that you can do to help get you testosterone levels back to normal.

Understanding Testosterone Level Tests

Performing a blood test can reveal a person's testosterone levels. This type of test is given to young boys who are suffering from delayed puberty or puberty is progressing slower than it should. In general, boys who have not started puberty by the time they reach the age of 10 are tested to determine what their testosterone levels are at that time.

This blood test is also performed if a boy goes through puberty earlier than he should and experiences sex characteristics that are secondary. When puberty begins earlier than it should in young boys it means their testosterone level is particularly high.

Grown men undergo this test if their doctor suspects they are infertile. It is also given if a man's sex drive has decreased or if they are suffering from erectile dysfunction. Men need to know that there is no magic level of testosterone in their body that is normal because testosterone levels vary from man to man.

Testosterone In Women

While testosterone testing is performed more frequently on men than women there are instances when women are given the test as well. Women who are not having a period or are having a period but are having a hard time getting pregnant often undero testosterone testing. This type of test is also performed if a woman develops masculine features such as facial hair, a deep voice or male pattern baldness. When testosterone levels rise in a woman, the cause could be tumors in her adrenal gland or ovaries. It can also be attributed to polycystic ovarian syndrome.

When testing blood to determine someone's testosterone levels two measurements can be performed; total testosterone and free testosterone. The total testosterone measurement determines how much testosterone the body is producing that is being used by the body to keep an individual healthy. Total testosterone becomes attached to the appropriate receptors in a person's body. The free testosterone measurement is especially important because healthy people don't have much of it in their system. Levels of free testosterone that are significantly higher than they should be can indicate a problem with a person's endocrine system. In this case, the receptors that are attached to the binding in an individual's body are not functioning as they should be.

During the process of testing blood to determine a person's testosterone level, the blood is taken from the patient and sent to the lab. The lab results are then sent to hormone replacement therapy doctors. This is important because analyzing blood to determine testosterone levels requires a doctor who knows a great deal about hormone replacement therapy.

To prepare to have test of this type administered, the patient needs to avoid eating on the day of the test until the test has been performed. Eating before taking a blood testosterone test can change a person's blood sugar level and mess up the test results. The reading of both an individual's total and free testosterone levels can turn out inaccurate if food is in the individual's system.

Regular doctors appointments generally don't include a blood test for testosterone levels as these tests are routinely performed by endocrinologists. In many cases, men can be prescribed with injectible testosterone and women can be prescribed testosterone cream. Women are told to apply this cream every day in order to increase their testosterone level. This can often lead to higher sex drives and more energy for women who have been suffering.
