A Sample of Funny Quotes by “Anonymous”

There's nothing like a quick bit of humor to brighten a dark day. Taking in a few funny quotes is a great way to get that daily dose of laughter. But good quotes can be hard to find; writing one is practically an art form. Famous comics and jokesters and wit-mongers have been thinking up pithy nuggets of quotable comedy for centuries. Not all of the best or funniest quotes, however, come from well-known figures. There are plenty of terrific quotes whose authors have been forgotten or maybe never really known. Here's a sample of some funny quotes that have come from anonymous minds.

Joking About Death

"When I die, I want to go peacefully like my grandfather did, in his sleep. Not screaming and yelling like the passengers in his car." Jokes about aging and death are always easy to relate to. Death comes for everyone. There's not much to do but laugh about it. This joke has a funny and surprising turn at the end. The expectation is that the old grandfather was in bed when he died. But the unexpected pop of humor comes when it's revealed that he fell asleep at the wheel of his car and brought a few people down with him. Morbid? Yes. But that's life, and this anonymous author is trying to have a sense of humor about it.

Joking About the Sexes

"Men have only two emotions: hungry and horny. If you see him without an erection, make him a sandwich." The differences between the sexes have been puzzling humankind since the dawn of time. In this little joke, the author draws on the old stereotype of men being very simple creatures who lack emotional nuance. Even if it's tough to buy this stereotype, it's such a common one that it's easy to exploit it for a quick chuckle

Joking About Raising Children

"Children: You spend the first 2 years of their life teaching them to walk and talk. Then you spend the next 16 telling them to sit down and shut up." The joys and troubles of child rearing are a great source of humor. The author of this funny and true quote points out how the joys of parenting can very quickly turn into troubles. It's the irony that makes this funny. Irony has been making people laugh for thousands of years. Even the Ancient Greeks knew how effective irony could be at eliciting laughter from a crowd. Those ancient comedies are chock-full of ironic delights.

Joking About Jokes

"I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives." The "Why did the chicken cross the road?" joke is a time-honored bit of humor. Everyone knows that joke. Children learn it in kindergarten. With a joke that's so widespread and well known, it's fun to play around with the traditional telling of it, which is why there are a hundred versions of that joke floating around out there. What's even more fun is to mock the joke itself, as this anonymous author has done. It's guaranteed to deliver a smile - a smirk, at the very least. Life can be long and tough and very, very serious. It's important to take a little time to laugh at the big stuff, the small stuff, and all the other stuff in between.
