Review:

I've been a big of fan of Kim Vogel Sawyer's books, especially the Mennonite books, so I eagerly signed up to review Sweet Sanctuary courtesy of Litfuse Publicity and Bethany House in exchange for my honest review.

Set in 1944, Dr. Micah Hatcher's world is suddenly changed when out-of-the-blue he receives a mysterious letter from his ex-girlfriend's (Lydia Eldredge) father. It seems that Mr. Eldredge has somehow gotten the idea that Micah is the father of Lydia's son, Nicky. The man is forcing legal troubles if Micah doesn't take responsibility of being the boy's father. Of course, this is all a mistake? Right?

Dr. Hatcher arrives at the Eldridge household to unravel the confusion, where he meets the young Nicky playing in the yard. Nicky instantly befriends Hatcher, calling him Micah-my-friend. Old sparks rekindle when Dr. Hatcher catches a glimpse of the lovely Lydia.

It seems Lydia's father had been reading her diaries and thought Dr. Hatcher would make the perfect husband for her and a father for Micah. When Lydia was away working at a Red Cross, she befriended a woman named Eleanor, who later died and left her baby boy, Nicky, with Lydia.

Dr. Hatcher is smitten with Lydia and adores Nicky. He would do anything to protect them, which is a good thing as there is someone from Eleanor's past that will do anything to get to Nicky.

Once again the author didn't disappoint me as Sweet Sanctuary is a well written and at times an intense romantic gem. I thought it was odd that I had just finished reading another book with a similar plot about a woman raising a friend's baby. Nevertheless, the characters were amazing and I was emotionally hooked into the story. Overall, Sweet Sanctuary is one my favorite books published in 2013 and I recommend it to others.
