Review: Subversive: The Warrior Book 3

Forty-some-years ago, an apocalypse destroyed most of civilization all except for a small group of humans whom has established a community called Genesis. Life isn't easy for these people, as clans of vampires and werewolves want to eliminate the human race.

Rachel Clancy is struggling with her newfound responsibility of being part of the "Warriors," a select members of Genesis who have the ability and strength to take on the night creatures. And of course she is still has mixed feelings about her ex-boyfriends, all while she is somewhat handed pick to lead the Warriors. There is no more hiding from the creatures. They must fight back with everything they have or humanity will be lost forever.

This is book three of the series and I wished I read the previous books as the third book was a little confusing for me. After half way through, I did start to catch up with the past plots, but I still had trouble connecting to characters. Subversive is aimed for Young Adult audience, and I do think the main character, Rachel, is a good role model for girls as she is a strong-willed character who must confront her problems no matter how deadly they are. The vampire/werewolf storylines have been done to death thanks to the bloated Twilight series, but throwing in the post-apocalyptic plot is a nice twist. If you are a YA vampire/werewolf fan, then you'll probably enjoy this series. I found nothing wrong with the book, I just wished I had read the previous books before starting the third. Some sequels have standalone plots, but Subversive is a continuation. Overall, I enjoyed the author’s style of writing, but I did feel that the book was a little bit short. The good news is that there are two more books in the series to look forward too.

About the author

As a teenager, Rebecca Royce would hide in her room to read her favorite romance novels when she was supposed to be doing her homework. She hopes, these days, that her parents think it was well worth it.

Rebecca is the mother of three adorable boys and is fortunate to be married to her best friend. They live in northern New Jersey and try not to freeze too badly during the winter months.

She's in love with science fiction, fantasy, and the paranormal and tries to use all of these elements in her writing. She's been told she's a little bloodthirsty so she hopes that when you read her work you'll enjoy the action packed ride that always ends in romance. Rebecca loves to write series because she loves to see characters develop over time and it always makes her happy to see her favorite characters make guest appearances in other books.

In Rebecca Royce's world anything is possible, anything can happen, and you should suspect that it will.
